Re: [qoscrofts] Where are you going - where did you go? ICE HOCKEY or Reply Privately

Tues Apr 1
Qualification to EliteSeries
Hovet: Djurgarden 2-4 Orebro
Admission: 200 SEK (20)
Attendance: approx 8000 (sell out)

A particularly sombre event, given the death of a Djurgarden fan of both football and ice hockey on Sunday in Helsingborg. 'We are with you always, Stefan' was chanted constantly for the whole of the first period, and the end of the last. This was a revisit for me to Hovet (yards away from the national stadium, Globen), but for a much more competitive game.

We had standing tickets, which meant behind the goals - there were some seats, but we were in the aisle mostly. Opposite end is a VIP bar (300 SEK). Drinks can only be consumed in a designated area outside the rink surrounds - it was 58 SEK (5.80) for a Norrlunds Gold (bland lager).

Djurgarden scored after 16 seconds and defended well for most of the 1st period, when no-one looked like scoring. However, they switched off, just after surviving a powerplay, to go in 1-1. Orebro far better 2nd period and took advantage of overcommitting defenders and personnel changes to lead 3-1 into the last change. I wouldn't say a 4th goal killed it, but plenty of home support left then, missing Djurgarden finally getting a powerplay result from the 4th opportunity, just 10 seconds into it. 57 minutes play of failing to score took it's toll though, with Orebro easing to a win.

These were the top 2 in the playoff group, but Rogle have now overtaken Djurgarden. The playoffs are between the bottom 2 in the top flight (AIK and Orebro), the 1-3 in the 2nd (Allsvenskan - Malmo, Vasteras and Djurgarden) and the winner of the 2nd division playoff 4-7 (Rogle), so a straight promotion relegation would have much different end results. Orebro, having apparently brought in 6 signings towards the end of the season, are now certain of retaining their place in the top level. Rogle need only to win their remaining 2 home games to claim a return from 7th ahead of all those above in the 2nd level in the regular season.

Last new football ground (948) Baza Arcom Progresul Spartac 1-1 Unirea Bascov
With FC United: 133
On the agenda:
24/9 Warrington Town v FC United
28/9 FC United v Bamber Bridge
29/9 Connahs Quay Nomads v Penybont
