A surprising, and desrrved, first point for the new boys, who were formed after the demise of the Elite League's Hull Stingrays. Bison, top, fresh from a stunning 4-1 win at champions Telford last Sun, rarely got out of first gear for most of this game but got two points. Not much happened in the first period. Bison started the second better and took the lead. But they had a few penalties, and Hull equalised with their second power-play. Early in the third Hull took the lead and we wondered iif an upset was on the cards. Bison put the pressure on at last and equalised with nine mins left. But Hull held firm with netminder Baston outstanding, not for the first time this season. It's 3 v 3 in overtime nowadays and Bison dominated it, but Hull had the best two chances. On to penalties and it was 2-2 after six. The next five were all missed, leaving Bison's Watt to beat Baston for the decisive penalty.
No changes at Basingstoke this season, crowd a bit quiet at times but gave Hull, and Baston in paricular, a warm welcome, unlike the welcome they gave the officials.
If you're going to/been to a Hampshire Premier League match, I'd really appreciate you filling in a questionnaire - available in the Groundhopping/General section, or just PM me for a copy. Thanks.
