Wigan and District Amateur League, Division One
North Walkden 5 Gidlow Athletic 0 (att 8)

Not an evening that will live long in the memory, but definitely the sort of venue that's better visited midweek that on a Saturday. North Walkden are based at Wharton Playing Fields in the Little Hulton area of Salford. A changing room block and space for three pitches, all with rusting goalposts. Give me a 3G cage over this any day, especially on a damp and gloomy evening.

North Walkden needed to win as they battle Digmoor for the title, and two first half goals and three more in the second half reflected their dominance. The visitors lost a player to an early red card, as the player lost his head and had to be restrained after the referee failed to see an off the ball punch that he claimed he was the victim of. I didn't see it either ... and I really don't know if he had genuine cause for his annoyance.

UPDATE: North Walkden have just told me, via Twitter, that they're moving to a new ground with better facilities for next season.
