Re: [gaffer] Round 2 and Round 3 [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Thanks for the insight Gaffer. I like your predictions too. The cup is there for Baldon to take IF they can keep their discipline. Hard to predict who can challenge them since all the best teams will play/knock each other out. Centersports, Groundhoppers, Baldon, Hatcham, Milldean, Vista, and Eltham Town beating each other shows the OBDSFL's strength in depth. The KOPA league teams are going through a transitional phase with Tripimeni and New Salamis losing many of their best players. Apoel are supposed to be very strong this year. Some great games in round 3:

  • Akincilar v Yalova (Turkish league derby)
  • Lambeth All Stars v Clapton Rangers - probably the two most skillful teams in the cup. Lambeth have a number of players who play in the Conference, step 4, and their GK used to be on West Ham's book! As you said, Clapton had key players missing against Groundhoppers (their star striker, and two other players who play at step 4). If both teams get their strongest squads out, this could be great game.
  • If Phoenix get through, their game against Tripimeni could be the tie of the round.

Re: [stevegraze] Round 2 Result [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Another result yesterday from one of the postponed 2nd round matches:

Southbank (Southern Sunday League) 2 -v- Phoenix (Hackney & Leyton League) 4 (AET)
Southbank took the lead on 25 minutes after a goal by M Fullerton. Nico Muir equalised for Phoenix on 48 minutes, only for Southbank to regain the lead through a J Nurden penalty. Nico Mur scored his second of the game on 64 minutes. Full-time score was 2-2. Muir completed his hat-trick 7 minutes into extra-time, and added another just before half-time in extra time. 4 goals for Nico Muir. Muir plays for the youth team of Uxbridge FC (step 3).

This now sets up the big grudge match/derby in round 3: Phoenix -v- Tripimeni.

Round 3 Preview [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

LFA Sunday Challenge Cup, round 3. Sunday December 2, 2012 (10:30am Kick-offs unless indicated otherwise). The marquee games that stick out are Phoenix v Tripimeni, Lambeth All Stars v Clapton Rangers, and Akincilar v Yalova. The best and most "comfortable" venues for those who want to watch are at: Akincilar, Yeni Bogazici (Brimsdown Stadium), and Rizokarpasso (Hive Football and fitness center). Not sure what will happen at Brimsdown Stadium as both Akincilar and Yeni use it as their home ground and both have home fixtures there on Sunday (maybe one will kick off in the am and another pm?)

OMONIA (KOPA LEAGUE) v- LONDON BARI (ESSEX SUNDAY CORINTHIAN LEAGUE) LONDON BARI
Broomfield Park, Broomfield Lane, Southgate N13 4HE

London Bari recently entered a Saturday team at step 5 in the Essex Senior League. They have a lot of quality players to choose from and I think they will win here.

LAMBETH ALL STARS (MORDEN & DISTRICT LEAGUE) v- CLAPTON RANGERS (HACKNEY & LEYTON LEAGUE)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm-rMAiTSgM
http://www.youtube.com/...=14&feature=plcp

Does anyone know the venue for this game?
Clapton's "reward" for a fine victory against a quality Groundhoppers team in the last round is a daunting trip to face the Modern & District League champs. These are probably the two most skillful/flair teams in the cup. Lambeth's Jermaine Brown has played professionally for many teams and now plays at step 3 for Chelmsford City. Their striker Aaron Watson plays for Ringmer at step 5, and their GK was formerly on the books of West Ham. Clapton have 10 players in their squad who play(ed) at steps 2-5.
As always, if Clapton keep the ball on the floor they will be hard to handle. If Lambeth get lots of set pieces, Clapton will have problems. Too close to call.

RIZOKARPASSO (KOPA LEAGUE) v- BALDON SPORTS (ORPINGTON & BROMLEY DISTRICT LEAGUE) BALDON
The Hive Football and Fitness Center, Camrose Avenue, Edgware Middlesex HA8 6AG
http://www.kopaleague.com/.../bl1315688018768.JPG
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dhocx46H4g
http://www.pitchero.com/...cup-2008-60356.html#

In the previous round Baldon beat the team that knocked out of this cup last season (Eltham Town). Now they face the team that knocked them out the season before last. Rizokarpasso will be dangerous as they signed a few players from New Salamis this season (including some who helped New Salamis beat Baldon in previous seasons - like Jeff Hammond and Anthony Macdonald). However Baldon look unstoppable this season. They are undefeated in all competitions, 5 points clear at the top of the their league with a game in hand, and recently beat OBDSFL champions Centersports Utd for the second time this season (already! 5-2 and 3-1). IF Baldon can control their tempers and keep their discipline, the sky is the limit for them this season.

The long trip from Kent to Middlesex, and playing on a 3G astro pitch will take their toll on Baldon. It will be a close game for those reasons, but I think Baldon will continue to succeed on their revenge mission. There should be 7 members of the Dolby brothers/family in Baldon's line up! (Marc, Adam (captain), Billy, Jason, Ryan, Harry, George).

APOEL (KOPA LEAGUE) v- DEES (MORDEN & DISTRICT LEAGUE) APOEL
Aylands Open Space, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield EN3 6TW
http://www.kopaleague.com/...bl13156660872936.jpg
Both teams are top of their leagues. Apoel just won a top of the table clash against 2nd placed Tripimeni 4-1. They have won the Herts Intermediate Cup before, and are in fine form this season. I think this will be Dees' first loss of the season.

AKINCILAR v-YALOVA (BOTH TURKISH COMMUNITY FOOTBALL FEDERATION) AKINCILAR
Brimsdown Stadium, Goldsdown Rd, Enfield EN3 7RP - 1pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFfOPtEuZ4o

A Turkish league derby. Yalova are holders of the LFA Sunday Intermediate Cup, and are aiming to become the first side to win all three London county cups in successive seasons (after winning the Junior Cup 2 seasons ago). Yalova have been very fortunate in county cup draws over the past 2 seasons, rarely being tested before the final. Akincilar won 2 very difficult away games after long trips to South London to beat very good opposition from the OBDSFL. These two clubs are great rivals but I think Akincilar will shade it.

PHOENIX (HACKNEY & LEYTON LEAGUE) v- TRIPIMENI (KOPA LEAGUE)
http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/...ix-281012-TGS009.jpg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxy-nXlWKZE

THE tie of the round, and the mother of all grudge matches! These two teams know each other very well, as at least 9 players from Tripimeni left to join Phoenix. A few Phoenix players joined Tripimeni too. The fact that Phoenix came back from behind twice to win 4-2 AET in an away game against the champions of the Southern Sunday League (Southbank), shows how much they wanted this tie. Expect a blood and thunder, end to end, competitive, breathtaking match. Given the personal rivalries Anything could happen. I will not even try to predict a winner.!

YENI BOGAZICI DOGAN SPOR (TURKISH COMMUNITY FOOTBALL FEDERATION) v- BRIXTON UNITED (METROPOLITAN SUNDAY LEAGUE) YENI
Brimsdown Stadium, Goldsdown Rd, Enfield EN3 7RP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=265DzuJafHI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXf_Y2a96Ak
Brixton Utd had a huge victory over Metropolitan League champs AFC Kumazi Strikers in the previous round. Edgar Davids recently took some of their training sessions too! However I think travelling away to face a team third in their league will take its toll on them.

Postponed game:
Binatli (Turkish Community Football Federation) v winner of Golden Eagles v Cool Oak Rangers or FC Bickley. WHEN will these ties be played? Binatli will be waiting a long time as Cool Oak Rangers' tie against Golden Eagles has been postponed AGAIN.

You are right. The Lambeth All Stars v Clapton Rangers game has been postponed to December 9 (due to Lambeth's FA Sunday Cup game against Marquis Rangers). Tough series of games for Lambeth: Marquis Rangers, Clapton Rangers, then Dees (league leaders) on the 16th. They will do well to come out of those games without a loss.

Gaffer, by the way - was one of the Clapton Rangers goals against Groundhoppers definitely an OG? I ask as other reports are saying that both Clapton goals were scored by their striker Nathan Scarborough.

Steve

definitely an OG. The forward was being run down and the Centre Halh stuck out his leg and toe ended in the net fom 18 yards - wasnt even a deflected shot

Hoppers wesite link attached with my match report

http://groundhoppers.weebly.com/...dhoppers-obdsfl.html

past match repirts under archives with some photos (not up to Hughesy's videos!!)

They drew away to Hatcham again last week (missed opportunities) and an ex Palace player (Ashley Robinson?) hit a screamer for them!

Baldon are well away in the league as all others continue to drop points. Centresports through away a two goal lead last week to Eden Park tolose 3-2

Steve - results I have found so far. A thumping for Metropolitan Sunday League sides Yeni beat Brixton 5-2 and Binalti beat Golden Eagles 4-1. Baldon beat the frost on the long trip to North London and beat Rizokarpasso 2-0.

Lambeth played in the National Cup and won 4-2 aet and play Clapton next weekend as do Apoel and Dees

The Turkish Community Football Federation is seemingly getting stronger every year.

I think Baldon Sports might be the only team who can stop a TCFF clean sweep in all three London FA Sunday Cup competitions this season.

Re: [HughesVideo] Round 2 - November 4 [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Gaffer, thanks for confirming that the first Clapton goal was an OG by GH's Elliot Parmenter. Interesting that both you and the GH lads tip Clapton Rangers to beat Lambeth All Stars. Clapton must have really impressed.

That Baldon result was major. Baldon were upset when they arrived to discover a 3G pitch (they thought it was going to be a grass pitch!). They all had the wrong boots for playing on 3G. Got to give Baldon credit as the ref offered them the chance to postpone the game (he did not know it was 3G either) and Baldon refused. Had they read this website, they would have known what type of pitch it was! Wink Baldon will play London Bari (who beat the KOPA League's Omonia 4-3 away) in the quarter-final.

I am 100% with the predictions and results so far! I should start a betting syndicate!

Games postponed: Lambeth All Stars v Clapton Rangers, Phoenix v Tripimeni, Apoel v Dees. I don't think the Akincilar -v- Yalova game was played either. Golden Eagles never played their repeatedly postponed 2nd round fixture against Cool Oak Rangers (Golden Eagles were given a walkover win for some reason).

Lambeth All Stars were nearly knocked out of the FA Sunday Cup by Marquis Rangers, but a last minute equaliser tied the game at 2-2 and Aaron Watson scored another hat-trick (again!) for them to win the game 4-2 AET. Watson also scored a hat-trick for them in round 1 when they beat Artois United 5-0. He plays for Ringmer FC in the Sussex County League (step 5).

That's not the first time a KOPA League team has done that.

I think the problem is that so many KOPA League teams play their League matches on 3G, they think it's the norm and then 'forget' to tell their opponents when they play teams from other Leagues in County Cup matches...or they assume the London FA will have told them on the fixture sheets that are sent out.

Rizokarpasso v Baldon Match [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

The 3G pitch was not the only thing that surprised Baldon. Apparently the pitch had 2 wire ropes running across it at each end! (originally intended as a device to split the pitch into 3 during training) The ball of course hit said rope - resulting in a drop ball. Rizokarpasso also had a former professional player (ex Fulham) in their squad! Since it was an LFA match, the KOPA "foreigner" rule did not apply so they could field their squad of English, non-Cypriot players (like Jeff Hammond and Antony Macdonald - who have played at steps 2-4 for Grays).

According to Mittoo, Lambeth overcame Clapton 3-2 so I guess I under estimated them from the video on YouTube! Apoel beat Dees 4-2. Can't wait for the Tripimeni result that hasn't been posted yet. Baldon 'slipped up' against Eltham in the league with a 1-1 draw.

surely the county FAs must do something about the standard of 3G pitches if its to continue to allow them. tipi menus pitch last season had some dangerous cuts in it.

Re: [gaffer] Round 3 Results [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

I will post full results (and match reports) once I get the goalscorer info from the games. There were some absolutely cracking games in round 3. The scorelines do not reveal how close and dramatic many games were (last minute goals etc).
Other results not already mentioned:

Phoenix 6 -v- Tripimeni 3 - as expected, this grudge match had fireworks with penalties, lots of goals, red cards and extra-time. Oh, and all 6 Phoenix goals were scored by former Tripimeni players! Phoenix will play another KOPA League side (league leaders Apoel) in the QF.

Akincilar 0 -v- Yalova 1 - the second time that Yalova has beaten Akincilar this season. Yalova will play Lambeth All Stars in the QF. I would have liked to see Yalova v Clapton Rangers (as it would have been a meeting of the only sides to ever win the Junior and Intermediate Cups in successive seasons). If Yalova beat Lambeth, they will face the winner of the Phoenix/Apoel match (they beat both teams en route to winning the LFA Sunday Intermediate Cup last season, Apoel in the QF, Phoenix in the final).

Gaffer, it will be interesting to see what kind of team Clapton Rangers had out. They normally take London Cups seriously, but rarely have a settled line-up from one week to the next. Very tough draw for them to get Groundhoppers in round 1 (top team in OBDSFL), then the Morden & District League champs in the next round (M & D league is one of the strongest in London/Surrey). Apart from playing Baldon, that is about as hard as the draw can be!

Round 3 Results [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Apologies for the delay in posting full results from round 3. Christmas/end of year business got me sidetracked. As I said before, every single game was very competitive and close. All but one of the games were decided by late goals in the dying minutes, or went to extra-time.

OMONIA (KOPA LEAGUE) 3 v- LONDON BARI (ESSEX SUNDAY CORINTHIAN LEAGUE)
4

London Bari were 2-0 up by half time (including a penalty), but Omonia came back to lead 3-2 with goals from Adrian Gordon, Alex Spyropoulos and Alexander Birri. However they threw away their hard work by allowing London Bari to score two late goals in the dying minutes to win the game.

LAMBETH ALL STARS (MORDEN & DISTRICT LEAGUE) 3 v- CLAPTON RANGERS (HACKNEY & LEYTON LEAGUE) 2

A close game as expected from the two most skillful teams left in the cup. Lambeth's Aaron Watson (plays at step 5 for Ringmer in the Sussex County League) continued his fine scoring form with another 2 goals. Rotten draw for Clapton. Playing Groundhoppers in round 1, followed by Lambeth All Stars in round 2 is as tough as it can get (without playing Baldon Sports!).

RIZOKARPASSO 0 (KOPA LEAGUE) v- BALDON SPORTS (ORPINGTON & BROMLEY DISTRICT LEAGUE) 2

Despite turning up with boots for a grass pitch, not being told they were playing on a 3G astroturf pitch, and refusing the ref's offer to postpone the game, Baldon were 2-0 up by half-time. Ryan Dolby (of course!) scored a free-kick on his birthday, and Lee Godfrey scored a penalty (after Ryan Dolby was brought down).

Rizokarpasso had a strong line-up ncluding some former New Salamis players - and Wilson Carvalho, who formerly played for Fulham and Stevenage!

APOEL (KOPA LEAGUE) 4 v- DEES (MORDEN & DISTRICT LEAGUE) 2

A clash of the leaders f the KOPA, and Morden & District Leagues. Apoel led twice, only for Dees to peg them back each time to level at 2-2. Apoel's scorers were Petric (2), Lawrence and Kyri Kyprianou.

AKINCILAR 0 v- YALOVA 1 (BOTH TURKISH COMMUNITY FOOTBALL FEDERATION)

Yalova won the battle of the two elite Turkish teams after a 59th winner from their Nigerian born Italian striker Kelvin Balotelli, who came off the bench to score within 60 seconds of coming on as a sub (with his second touch of the ball). Inspired substitution then!

PHOENIX (HACKNEY & LEYTON LEAGUE) v- TRIPIMENI (KOPA LEAGUE)

I told you this would be the tie of the round and it did not disappoint. The match had everything: goals, red cards, extra-time, battles...

Phoenix took the lead in the 15th minute after their striker Niko Muir rounded the Tripimeni GK to score. Tripimeni equalised in the 34th minute, then took the lead on 52 minutes. Niko Muir was brought down in the box in the 64th minute, and Naim Essiaghi equalised for Phoenix from the resulting penalty. Tripimeni were reduced to 10 men on 86 minutes after a second yellow. 2-2 was the full time score.

On 97 minutes Karim Essiaghi was brought down, and his brother Naim converted his second penalty of the game to put Phoenix in front. Niko Muir then made it 4-2 on 100 minutes, only for Tripimeni to pull a goal back on 107 minutes. Niko Muir completed his hat-trick with Phoenix's 5th goal a minute later, and Gio Falzone made it 6-3 with 2 minutes left. Right at the death, Tripimeni's Leon Fisher (of Wingate & Finchley, step 3 Ryman Premier) player was also sent off (Nicky Rifat was the other red card recipient). Fisher was one of Tripimeni's goalscorers during normal time (their other goalscorer was Andreas).

You will be surprised to know hat-trick hero Niko Muir is only 19 years old, yet he is already on the books of Hendon FC (step 3 Ryman Premier).

You will NOT be surprised to know every single one of the Phoenix goalscorers (and the players fouled for the 2 penalties) are former Tripimeni players!

YENI BOGAZICI DOGAN SPOR (TURKISH COMMUNITY FOOTBALL FEDERATION) 5 v- BRIXTON UNITED (METROPOLITAN SUNDAY LEAGUE) 2 (AET)

A much closer game than the scoreline suggests. Tre Towers gave Brixton a 17th minute lead. Then Daniel Aristdou equalised for Yeni in the 25th minute directly from a corner! Hussein Isa put Yeni 2-1 up with a 67th minute penalty. Danny Murray dramatically equalised for Brixton with only 2 minutes left with a header from a free-kick.

Yeni then brought on Shane Oakley (who plays at step 4 in the Ryman League for Aveley) in extra-time. Within 15 minutes of getting onto the pitch, Oakley scored a hat-trick in the first half of extra-time to put Yeni 5-2 up!

I see London Bari are in the Quarter Final. Is this basically the same team (give or take the odd player) who play in the Essex Senior League?

Also, any idea where the final is being played? Last season's final at Wingate & Finchley was a really good game.

Final venue is TBD. Wingate & Finchley is a likely candidate.

There is certainly overlap between the playing personnel of LB's Sunday and Saturday ESL teams. Many of them are experienced ESL players.

Quarter-Final [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Most of the quarter-final games were SUPPOSED to be played weeks ago but have been repeatedly postponed due to weather and pitch issues. Three quarter-final matches were played last weekend (Sunday February 3, 2013), and there were shock results in two of those games:

London Bari (Essex Sunday Corinthian League) 5 -v- Baldon Sports (Orpington & Bromley District League) 3

A shocking result. The favourites Baldon have been eliminated by the Sunday team of Essex Senior League (step 5) team London Bari.

Phoenix (Hackney & Leyton League) 1 -v- APOEL (KOPA League) 4

This is a very strange result, that I actually think is an upset. Phoenix thumped APOEL's fellow KOPA League team Tripimeni 6-3 in the previous round (and Tripimeni are above APOEL in the table). APOEL took the lead in the the 19th minute through Lawrence Haji, and George Sifonios made it 2-0 in the 48th minute. Phoenix pulled a goal back in the 60th minute, but APOEL's Jason Mason scored two more goals in the 70th and 85th minutes as Phoenix chased the game.

Apoel have clearly strengthened their squad. Of their goalscorers, Jason Mason used to play in the Conference for Bishops Stortford, and George Sifonios plays for Haringey Borough at step 5 (as do many KOPA league players). APOEL will play the winner of the Yalova -v-Lambeth all stars match in the semi-final on March 10th.

Yeni Bogazici Spor 5 -v- Binatli 4 (Both Turkish Community Football Federation)

This was a Turkish league derby at Brimsdown stadium, and was an an exciting game. Yeni took the lead on 6 minutes through Jason Sowle (Kent Football United FC - step 6). Ali Demir equalised for Binatli after 16 minutes, and Ricky Sappleton put Binatli 2-1 up after 30 minutes. Sappleton is a former pro who played for Macclesfield town during their football league days. He currently plays for Bishops Stortford at step 2. Here are some of his goals for Macclesfield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLikzNUL4PM

Sowle got his second of the game for Yeni to make it 2-2 after 37 minutes, before making it 3-2 just before half-time to complete his hat-trick. Demir scored again for Binatli on 55 minutes to make it 3-3. Binatli's Bradley Thomas was shown a red card for dissent after 80 minutes but the game then went into extra-time.

Despite Binatli being down to 10 men, Demir completed his hat-trick in extra-time to put Binatli 4-3 up with a header from a corner. With only 5 minutes left, Yeni's Tashan Richmond (Goffs Oak FC - step 7) equalised to make it 4-4. With penalties looming, Yeni's Ertrk Biteks shot at goal, but the Binatli GK Kemal Ozyasa saved his shot, only to see his save deflect of his team-mate and into the net in the dying seconds of the game.

These two teams will play each other again in a league game this weekend!

Yeni will face London Bari at home in the semi-final.

Remaining fixture:

Yalova (Turkish Community Football Federation) -v- Lambeth All Stars (Morden & District League) - Sunday March 10 (Albany Park, Albany Road, Enfield EN3 5UB)

The most evenly matched tie of the quarter-final. Tough game to call as both teams are very talented. Yalova are well drilled and organised. They have a strong squad with Waltham Forest FC's captain Adrian Clifton, and another Waltham Forest player Corey Whitely. Lambeth are very talented too and are very fluid going forward. I know that Lambeth's opponents this season have been very impressed with their skill level, and their talented forward Aaron Watson (Ringmer FC - step 5). Should be a very close game.

Apoel FC [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Gents, following on from our earlier discussions about Cypriot league teams playing stronger teams in the county cups...

It appears that Apoel did so as well. Prior to their Challenge Cup quarter-final against Phoenix, Apoel's management went to scout Phoenix, and were sufficiently impressed by Phoenix that they went and brought in their non-Cypriot players to make sure they had the strongest squad possible. Phoenix watched Apoel too in a KOPA league game, but it was a pointless exercise as Apoel played a completely different team with few Cypriot players in the LFA Challenge Cup. They had a team of mostly Englishmen (since LFA rules do not require them to play Greek-Cypriot players). Result: they rolled over Phoenix. From what I understand most of their non-Cypriot players are step 3-5 Saturday players.

With Baldon being knocked out, Apoel might be the new favourites to win the Challenge Cup. Perhaps only Lambeth All Stars can stop them? Clapton Rangers were very impressed with Lambeth after playing them. Clapton are not exactly a talentless team, so when they rave about Lambeth, they must be pretty good.

Lambeth All-Stars might find it difficult to stop Apoel since Lambeth got knocked out last weekend by Yalova!!!! Smile

If Yalova win the challenge cup, they would've won the Junior Cup, Intermediate Cup & Challenge Cup in back to back to back seasons...

Realistically they should never have been in the Junior or intermediate cups anyway, but still no mean fete.

As for Apoel changing their line-up, all the Greek/Turkish teams do it as the 3 foreigner rules only applies to their domesic competitions... New Salamis and Tripmeni have been doing it for years.

Good point! Sly I did not realise the game had been played. Very confusing - keeping track of all the results due to this game being postponed by several weeks. If Yalova win the Challenge Cup, that will be an extraordinary achievement: winning the "grand slam: of all three LFA county cups in successive seasons. It has never been done before. The closest were Clapton Rangers, who won the Junior and Intermediate Cups in successive seasons, then with the Challenge Cup at their mercy, conspired to grab defeat from the jaws of victory! They had a melt down and let Baldon score against them in the dying seconds of extra-time. They may never have a better chance to win the Challenge Cup.

The KOPA and TCFF teams are very well funded. That allows them to attract the best players (non-Turkish/Cypriot) at steps 3-5 to play for them on Sundays. One of the KOPA League teams fielded a former pro (who played for a Premier league team only a few seasons ago!) in their team in the Challenge Cup this season!

GAFFER, any news on Baldon's loss to London Bari? That was a surprising/upset result.

Re: [stevegraze] Semi-Finals [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

Semi-Finals - Sunday March 10, 2013

Yeni Bogazici (Turkish Community Football Federation) vs London Bari (Essex Sunday Corinthian League) - 1pm, Brimsdown Stadium, Goldsdown Road, Brimsdown

Amazing that Yeni have managed to reach the semi-final in their first entry in the Challenge Cup. London Bari must be considered very dangerous though after knocking out favourites Baldon Sports. They also have players from their strong Saturday squad to pick from. I think Bari will just about shade a close contest.

Yalova (Turkish Community Football Federation) vs Apoel (KOPA Cypriot League) - 1pm, Aylands Open Space, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield EN1

A repeat of last season's Intermediate Cup quarter-final (which Yalova won). Last season Yalova became only the second team in history (after Clapton Rangers) to win the Junior and Intermediate Cups in successive seasons. If they win Challenge Cup, they will be the first ever team to win the "grand slam" of all three London cups in successive seasons.

This is something of a "derby" even though the teams are in different leagues. Yalova are a Turkish Cypriot team, and Apoel are Greek Cypriot. Apoel have got much stronger this year, are second in their league (on goal difference) and have got some great wins this season over Sunday football giants New Salamis, Tripimeni and Phoenix. I think Apoel will win this one and dash Yalova's "grand slam" hopes.

Re: [stevegraze] Semi-Final Results [In reply to] Quote | Reply or Reply Privately

First result in: Apoel beat Yalova 2-0 away and are through the Challenge Cup final in the first season they entered the Challenge Cup. No "grand slam" of all 3 London cups for Yalova. Like Clapton Rangers before them, they won the Junior and Intermediate Cups, then fell at the semi-final stage of the Challenge Cup, when on the verge of completing the "grand slam".

Yeni Bogazici Dogan Spor won 4-0 at home against London Bari. So Yeni are through to the Challenge Cup final at their first attempt. Unsurprisingly it will be the Turkish League (Yeni) versus the Cypriot league (Apoel) in the final.

The final is on April 14 at Dulwich Hamlet FC.

Just noticed this.

Yeni were thrown out after their Semi-Final win (presumably for fielding ineligible or contract players ?), then the Final between London Bari v. Apoel was postponed on Sunday....I would guess waterlogged pitch ?
Nothing on the London FA website or their Facebook page and Twitter feed of course.

Apoel are red hot favourites. Will be amazed if they don't win it. They have been receiving great praise from their opponents this season.
