Another recap:

A deceased English footballer whose surname began with the letters Wa who never played a full international for his country and does not have his own wiki page.

Mainly associated with more than one non-league club inside the M25, based both north and south of the Thames, but debatable which of them he was best known for.

Known for a particular match that took place before 1892. The match:
- is highly unlikely to have been a league match and wasn't a Southern League match;
- could feasibly have been a cup match as the two teams did enter the same competition around this time, but it wasn't an FA Cup match;
- did not involve Nunhead, Clapham Rovers or Wanderers; and
- was not played at a school.

The team our man played for in this match no longer exists.

He is known for something relating to that match which couldn't/wouldn't have been foreseen. It probably wasn't a first and is nothing to do with a style or method of playing the game. It did, however, lead to something unusual, possibly unique, and this 'something' is not related to the laws of the game.

No. And I'll narrow it a bit further and tell y'all the match was in the 1890/1 season.

Thought I'd finally bored everyone into submission! Laugh. There's an aspect to this quiz which hasn't yet been uncovered that's not quite as obscure as what has been uncovered, so hang on in there chaps...

Anyway, the match was in 1890.

Yes, he played for the Casuals in the game in question that took place in 1890.

I'd say the Corinthians and the Casuals are the two best known clubs he played for, and it just so happens that each of these clubs played home games at grounds both north and south of the Thames - hence my vague response about this earlier. Incidentally, although I know the venue of the 1890 game, I don't know enough about Casuals' former home grounds to know if it was a home or away game!
