Step 7 Postcode information Can't Post or Reply Privately

Help is requested for postcode information to help with Maps and Mileage charts for Step 7 -Please

We simply need to know:
· The full name of the league
· The correct name for the division
· List of teams (confirmed 2009/10 line ups only, please)
· Postcode

The list can be in most formats, if using word or excel attachments; the team/postcode in two columns would be helpful, but not essential.

All help welcome. Maps/Charts can then be created for the new site.

Re: [Three Sides] Step 7 Postcode information [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

This could be some project as a lot of step 7 clubs don't actually have a postcode allocated to them. There are quite a few at higher levels as well.
It's an old chestnut but postcodes are for the sorting of mail. They're not necessarily a geographical indicator. As a postie I often have to deal with the fallout of people hopelessly lost as they've used a satnav rather than a map and they're either in completely the wrong place or they've hit a dead end the satnav didn't know about but I digress.....
I can access the Postcode Address File at work during my meal break so can help with the nearest postcodes to some of the fields step 7 teams play in although for some of them it's hard enough trying to find their home ground.
I've had a look at the Anglian Combination's site which has venues listed but hardly any postcodes. That'll be one of the easier ones. Leagues that use Mitoo or similar sites may take a bit longer.
I'll crack on with creating a list of the teams. I'm off work for a week so it'll give me something to do in my spare time. The postcodes can then be added when I get the time.
I can email the finished leagues as and when I do them but, of course, if someone else wants to do some of the leagues then, by all means, get on with it.
Send me a PM if you want to discuss this furthur.

Re: [VP] Step 7 Postcode information [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Having tried to find some grounds using just the postcode I know exactly what you mean. Trouble is, particularly with new grounds, they are often located on the edge of a town or village and the (nearest) postcode quoted can often be houses half a mile away along a different road.

I know some roads can be several miles long but the road name is often of far more use, although this can also fool the SatNav - ask Yorkie Exile who thought he had got to Chipping Sodbury's ground when he was at the start of the correct road but about 4 miles away !

Maybe for a large scale map postcodes would be accurate enough, though.

If I was organised, I'd be Dangerous.

Many thanks.

The nearest postcode (in my opinion) is adequate. The dot on microsoft maps is suitably indicative, given the scale of the maps used.

Thanks for the help so far.

Still needed:

Anglian Combination Bedfordshire Brighton, Hove & District Cambridgeshire County Central Midlands Cheshire Association Crawley & District East Berkshire East Sussex Essex & Suffolk Border Gloucestershire County Hampshire Kent County Leicestershire Senior Liverpool County Premier Manchester Middlesex County Midland Combination Mid-Sussex North Berks Northampton Town Northamptonshire Combination Northern Alliance Oxfordshire Senior Peterborough & District Reading Somerset County Staffordshire County Senior Suffolk & Ipswich Sussex County Wearside West Cheshire West Lancashire West Midlands (Regional) West Sussex Wiltshire Worthing & District

Just a short list then LOL!!!

Done Kent County and Essex Olympian

I have all bar Shirley Town from Midland Combination Div 1, but last years. There's a notice on the league website saying that they'll provide ground details after the deadline for clubs to provide 09/10 info (30 Jun).

Do you want the leagues at step 7 that haven't got official status yet as well? Hamsphire 2004 and Surrey Elite are the only two I know of but there may be more.

Anglian Combination nearly finished btw so no-one bother with that. You can check 15 postcodes a day on the public Royal Mail site but I need to save a few for my eBay packages!

I have exactly what you need and it's a lot more accurate than Postcodes. For the last 2 years I've been collating clubs longitude and latitude for use in my TomTom "points of interest" file. I'm up to 1800+ clubs, a good way through Step 8 & just waiting for a few Step 7 leagues to confirm their constitutions to complete for this season.

Northwood, Threave Rovers, Queen of the South, Rochdale, Arsenal, Watford, Rangers (the real ones, NOT qpr), New England Revolution, and a few others.

I'm going to say 'yes' to this, as I hope that we'll be covering at least one division of each of the non-Step leagues equivalent to those at Steps 7 & 8 this season - and not just those which are expecting to get a Step 7 (a,b,c,d) grading for 2010-11.

I'm still waiting for the constitution of the highlighted league Three Sides. As soon as I have it I'll let you know the postcodes as I have most of last season's already. I will say though that I found some of them inaccurate so I used the postcode of the nearest buildings based on Google Earth maps.

Re: [Three Sides] Step 7 Postcode information [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I have (or can get relatively easily) all the postcodes for the Oxfordshire Senior League sides. The problem is that many of them are for contact info, and so probably relate to the clubs' secretaries addresses rather than the addresses of the grounds that they play at. My assumption is that this info probably isn't what you're after. If it is, then I'll happily supply it, otherwise I can try to gather postcodes of the grounds but, as others have said, this might not necessarily be the best way to get directions.

Just gotta say I think lat/long is a much better way of positioning pins accurately, but are we able to utilise this ?

This is an amazing data base! FANTASTIC WORK!!!

The map & mileage charting software works with latitude and longitude, so should be all we need.

I will liase with Mark Hardy about producing the step 7 maps (to the specified 780 pixel width) and charts from this database over the next few days.

Wishing to repeat myself - The information really is Excellent, thanks again!

I use Microsoft Autoroute for the Maps and Microsoft Mappoint with Milecharter add-on for the Mileage & Time charts.

I have added all your confirmed Step 7 line ups to one map: http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/Step%207.htm The links on the left had side will (when completed) give 'close-ups' of individual divisions and mileage charts (Until new site is ready to be populated with the maps). Currently just Hertfordshire PD & Midland Comb D1 completed as test.

Maps & Mileage Charts for several Step 7 divisions/grounds now completed.

I would appreciate any help with the last few: Brighton Hove & District PD, Crawley & District PD, East Berkshire PD, East Sussex PD, Essex & Suffolk Border PD, Gloucestershire County, Liverpool PD, North Berks D1, Northampton Town PD, Oxfordshire PD, Peterborough PD, West Midlands Regional D1, West Riding County, West Sussex PD, West Yorkshire PD & Worthing PD.

I simply need:
  • Confirmed Line up 2009-10
  • Postcode or ground address or Lat/Long co-ordinates.

See work in progress at: http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/Step%207.htm
With thanks to the many contributors, so far!!!!

Mike, as soon as there is any news with regard to the Essex & Suffolk Border League I'll post the details. If last season is anything to go by we won't get any news until maybe the last week in July so we've got a while to wait yet I'm afraid.

Mike, the EOL constitution is last season's - You need to take out M&B Club (demoted) and put in Rayleigh Town and Westhamians (both promoted).

Other corrections:

Middlesex - Singh Sabha are the missing 16th club in the Premier Division.
Manch - Old Alts are actually properly called Old Altrinchamians
Dorset - Sturminster Newton are missing their United suffix
Staffs - Holt JCB won their appeal and are in the Premier - it runs with 18. Also it isn't Norton United Reserves as far as I am aware - its just Norton.

You also have last years West Lancashire League lineup. I don't think the new constitution has been announced yet for this league.
