What Steps 1-4 could look like in 2010-11 Can't Post or Reply Privately

With the new season only 1 week away, I have had a first attepmt at the 'what 2010-11 season' may look like maps.

I will update them again after next Saturdays results.

All comments welcome. I'm particularly interested in knowing if the team lists show up OK in various browsers (I believe its OK in IE) and if the maps should be wider? I have set this weeks maps at 780px, Tony used wider 960px maps.

Everything looks fine in Firefox.

Northwood, Threave Rovers, Arsenal, Watford, Rochdale, Rangers (the real ones, NOT qpr), queen of the south and a few others.

Raises an interesting question as to what the league tables should look like before a ball is kicked.

Should Chester City, Farsley Celtic, Merthyr Tydfil and Northwich Victoria be on minus 10 points, even though the tables on the official league sites show them currently having zero?

I did wonder about 'other -10s', but decided to go with the official tables.

My plan this week was just to do a dry run, so next weeks updates can be viewed and as accurate as possible.

Concur looks fine in 'fox.

One thing... the light-blue frame around the team lists is missing where the following map impinges a bit.

(are you REALLY going to do that to Wimbledon et al ???)

The bottom of the frame was missing with intent to relate the team lists with the map. I may fill it in at the next update as it does look a bit odd.

The relegation or the AFC Prefix suffix in brackets after the 'team name'?

I like what you've done with the prefixes Mark - puts the clubs in their proper place alphabetically.

However, you have made two mistakes with my club - firstly it's Rainworth not Rainsworth (the rogue middle s is a common error but I can't imagine why it should be), and you have us in the wrong place on your NCEL Premier Division map - we are some four miles east-south-east of Mansfield and you seem to have us in the frozen northern area above Worksop - I could never stand that climate!

All looks fine and dandy in Google Chrome too.

Good to see these again for this season, very much appreciate the work that has gone (and will go) into them.

New corrected NCELPD map, mileage & time charts http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/5NCELPD.htm The new map is created from the Latitude & Longitude Co-ords.

I'm glad you approve of the (AFC Prefix) suffix. I plan to keep them as a bracketed suffix unless the weight of pedantry convinces me otherwise.

ShockedOur name looks very, very strange that way. Whilst others may sometimes refer to Wimbledon, Halifax and Hornchurch without the prefix, no-one ever refers to us as United of Manchester.

Good work though, apart from that!

As recently stated on another thread, I do! I include the AFC prefix (due, mainly, to the Bournemouth/AFC Bournemouth situation and the fact that the 'AFC' in Sudbury's name is unique) but never include the FC prefix as I view it as completely unnecessary. When I finally get around to watching them, they will go into my records as United of Manchester.

So do I. Others may try to say the acronym FCUM as a single word. I of course wouldn't dream of doing so. Wink

Apologies, I've never heard anyone call us that before and as it's part of our name, I wouldn't view as unnecessaryMad. I've tried the search posts facility to test it's usage but 'Whole Phrase' doesn't seem to restrict itself to that. On my NLCL Predictions League entry forms, 14 people (including several regular posters on here - one who has posted in this thread!) have used FCUM, FC United and FC United of Manchester, but none 'United of Manchester' (to be fair to SuperKev, though, he didn't pick us!).

I'd not seen that site before, it's excellent. One minor point, however - on the MidComb map (http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/6MCPD.htm) Pelsall Villa (17) appears to be shown far to the west of Kidderminster, whereas Pelsall is actually in the northern suburbs of Walsall, a couple of miles from Walsall Wood (22)

Well spotted! Midland Comb Map & Charts now corrected.

Also updated Kent League with inclusion of Welling United Reserves team now called Corinthian.

If (in the probably unlikely event) Corinthian occupy the top place in Step 5 come April 2010, would they be promoted? The same question goes for Histon Reserves, Kings Lynn Reserves, CRC and similar.

At present when the maps are updated in plan to exclude any reserve team (or reserve team pretending not to be a reserve team) from promotion to step 4 - unless someone knows otherwise?

Great work ThreeSides. Very minor point but Team Bury don't show up on the main step 6 map though they do show on the Eastern Counties 1st Div map. My memory wasn't jogged by talk of Reserve Sides, Honest!Wink

A couple of things to change in Combined Counties Div 1.

Warlingham are ground sharing with Merstham for two seasons.

Mole Valley SCR - almost certain to be groundsharing with Cobham this season. It's been announced in the local media but hasn't been officially announced by the league yet. See - http://www.nlpl.co.uk/...orum.cgi?post=186165

Can't see why Corinthian would not be promoted. They do have very close ties with Welling United but they're not a reserve team and have their own ground.

Would find them much more acceptable as Welling Reserves.

But they are not anymore. Hardly were to start with.
Welling reserves are going to play in the Suburban league.
