just to get things started

I hope to go to Drighlington tomorrow in the national cup, a ground so basic that they cannot play Challenge cup ties at home, even in the qualifying rounds. May even decide to post details afterwards

Not a jot from AFC Fylde on the outcome of their 1pm pitch inspection, so I'll be going to the Leigh East vs East Hull game.

Like much of Yorkshire Drighlington was off due to frost and the need for an early decision as oppostion was coming from St Helens

Various phone calls brought little but postponements but eventually

OSSETT TRINITY 34 DEARNE VALLEY BULLDOGS 0
Pennine east first division

A decent set up and my fourth ground ( three football) in Ossett. Railed off in a park between the town and church si easy to find with clubhouse behind one goal and hot food available. Better set up than some much higher but one sided game.
No programme as would be expected and a collection box was taken around for admission.

Later found out Oulton played but unsure if we did well to find a game or not

Tomorrow (Friday) I'm off to Swinton Lions v Halifax, being played at Salford. No more Gay Mon I hope!

Be nice to know the score on Gay Mon. And even nicer if lower level clubs went back to issuing their own programmes. If rugby league clubs at National Conference level can manage to do it, there's no reason why the likes of Whitehaven, Hunslet and York etc can't.

Bristol University 30 University of Glamorgan 30

Wed 2 Feb 2011 2pm
BUCS Wales and West (3rd tier)
Venue: Treforest, venue reversed
attn 4 f + n

Played on the pitch between the dressing rooms and the railed football pitch with stand that Bridgend Town used as a temporary ground. No facilities pitchside but a large car park, about 15 feet from the touchline served as hard standing on a wet and muddy day.

A good game for the neutral, probably means Bristol will finish bottom. Looks like UWIC have won this division (and presumably will go up to Premier South next season). On now to the knockout competions.

I see Oldham list Nigel Marland as programme editor in the staff section of their website. I guess that means you can count on getting decent 'paper' at Whitebank this season!

I hope we`ve seen the complete demise of Gay Mon. As a paper chaser I hope that the traditional match programme returns. It says a lot though about how crap our clubs and the RFL are when no one knows whether Gay Mon survives or the match programme returns Unsure

Salanque Medertarannee PIA XIII 38 St Gaudens - Toulouse 12

A comfortable win for an impressive Pia side. There are some really good players in their squad and they have been joined by one of the Bentley brothers from the Dragons.

A meeting of two new teams in this division as Slawit (that's how it's pronounced for you southerners, or anyone else south of Holmfirth), were promoted last year and OB's moved over from Yorkshire League.
An absolute glue-pot of a pitch, in the end it was hard to distinguish the two teams. OB started fast and were 6-0 up after about eight minutes and should have been more. Slawit then awakened from their slumber and in the end were worthy winners scoring two first half tries and one in the second.
Pissed down the entire game, many umbrellas in attendance including mine.

After Drighlington were unable to play at home for the 2nd week running the game against Blackrook was transferred to Bruntcfiffe High School in Morley a ground used by Gilbersome.

I therefore took up the suggestion above of a challenge cup tie

Leeds Met University 44 ( possibly 48) Hull University 14.
This was the final qualifying round before the championship clubs come in and the winners may play at home at Headlingley Stadium or away at Widnes or Bramhall Lane in the next round.
Today facilities were more basic, changing at Milford Sports Club and then walking across an A road, through the roads of a retail park, over the River Aire to play at what is known as Abbey gardens, a delightful setting next to the river and overlooked by Kirkstall Abbey. Despite challenge cup rules indicating a gate must be taken, a programme produced and the pitch railed we had none of these not even a rope.
The visitiors scored first but the result was never in doubt and apart from two sendings off late on , little to report.

The next round is my favourite although all matches need to be played on grounds with minimum facilities and only Rochdale Mayfield who I believe are already out have the facilities to play at home

Attendance of about 45

From your description this looks to be a pitch on the Leeds Rugby training ground which is down the ramp just beyond the Bridge Pub.
I was informed by email from Leeds Met that the game would be on Milford,s ground which is the railed pitch next to the Leeds Academy next to the Retail Park.

Looks like Barrow are producing a programme this season,

"Issue 01 of the revamped Matchday Magazine will be available to buy at tomorrow's game versus York City Knights.
There will be more pages, articles, columns and colour content. It is hoped that the new look will appeal to all fans, particularly as it is 100% Barrow RL orientated - unlike the RFL's 'Game-On' magazine which the club had been obliged to sell last season.

Priced at £2.50, Issue 1 includes a 2011 pull-out Squad photo, a Dave Sear interview with Martin Clawson and contributions from Des, Schoey, Peter Wilson, Al Goodings (Community), Keith Nutter (History - look out for the photo of Craven Park just 2 days after opening!) and Mark Leech. Also included is a focus on York and their players to watch, a match report (including colour photos) from the Wigan match, NR Cup preview, players stats and fixtures.

Arrive at the ground early and pick one up."

Re Leeds Met, we checked the fixture with Milford Sports Club and went to the main training ground and were then redirected but this is the place you describe.

It must have the tightest turning in for a car if coming over the bridge from the River Aire
