From www.fifa.com The committee also decided on the slots for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, which will be as follows: AFC 4.5, CAF 5.0, CONCACAF 3.5, CONMEBOL 4.5, OFC 0.5, UEFA 13.0 and one slot the host Brazil. This is the same distribution of slots as for the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups™. For the play-offs relating to the half slots, a draw will determine how the four confederations involved (AFC, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and OFC) will pair off. Sufficient time will be allowed between the home and away legs of these play-offs. In other words, the numbers allocated to each region will be unchanged for 2014. There will be two intercontinental play offs at the end of the series, but it is not fixed as Oceania v Asia and North v South America, instead being drawn. Meanwhile, our friends in Asia, eager to get started have announced the first round of their knock out draw for March 30th (16.00, KL time). Asia will use its first two rounds to knock out over half its complement of teams before the main draw. Sina.com suggests nine matches in the first round, with Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam and Sir Lanka seeded, while Mongolia, Palestine, East Timor, Macau, Taiwan, Myanmar, Bhutan, Guam and the Phillipines will not be. The nine winners will be unseeded in the second round along with Yemen, Tajikistan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and the Maldives Seeded countries in the second round will be Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Uzbekistan, UAE, Syria, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, China, Singapore, Kuwait, Thailand, Turkmenistan and the Lebanon. This leaves Japan, South Korea, Australia, North Korea and Bahrain exempt from the two early rounds. The mumbers add up to 44, leaving Laos assumedly not entered, and Brunei currently suspended by FIFA
