This is the same distribution of slots as for the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups™. For the play-offs relating to the half slots, a draw will determine how the four confederations involved (AFC, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and OFC) will pair off. The nine winners will be unseeded in the second round along with Yemen, Tajikistan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and the Maldives Seeded countries in the second round will be Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Uzbekistan, UAE, Syria, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, China, Singapore, Kuwait, Thailand, Turkmenistan and the Lebanon. This leaves Japan, South Korea, Australia, North Korea and Bahrain exempt from the two early rounds. The mumbers add up to 44, leaving Laos assumedly not entered, and Brunei currently suspended by FIFA Fat AND Pompous. Anyway, Afghanistan are not playing all their games at home - in the AFC Challenge Cup, both matches (home and away) against Bhutan are being played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The winners then going into a qualification group where all matches are played in Kathmandu, Nepal in early April. The other teams involved being Nepal, North Korea and Sri Lanka. {If I could finance it, I would be up for the trip to Nepal - if anyone wants to pay £1000 just to be able to read my blogs on the matches, then send a PM}. The other Challenge Cup qualification groups, all single venue and later this month are Yangon, Myanmar to stage matches involving Myanmar, Bangladesh, Palestine and Mongolia or the Philippines (playing in Mongolia on 15 March) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to stage matches involving India, Pakistan, Taiwan and Turkmenistan (i.e. neutral venue) Male, Maldives staging the Maldives with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Cambodia. The finals in 2012 will be at a venue chosen from the finalists. I would guess Myanmar, India, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and North Korea will be involved in the finals. Fat AND Pompous.
