Group A (Myanmar)
The hosts drew with The Philippines in the opening fixture, but this was to prove to be their only point
Bangladesh, who lost their first game, 2-0 to Palestine, then beat the host 2-0 in the second game
this was preceeded by a 0-0 draw between the Philippines and Palestine
So from 2 games, Palestine had 4 points, Bangladesh 3, Philippines 2 and Myanmar 1
Convincing wins on the final day, Palestine beat Myanmar 3-1, and the Philippines beat Bangladesh 3-0.
Group b (Malaysia)
AT a neutral venue, and in front of tiny crowds, India and Turkmenistan both won their first two games,
Turkmenistan beat Pakistan 3-0, Chinese Taipei 3-1. India beat Chinese Taipei 3-0, Pakistan 2-0
Hence the final matches were unimportant, with India and Turkmenistan drawing 1-1 (so Turkmenistan were group winners)
Pakistan beat Chinese Taipei 2-0, leaving the Taiwanese in last place.
Group C (Maldives)
Tajikistan beat Kyrgyzstan 1-0 in the opening fixture, followed by the host beating Cambodia 4-0
The Maldives, whose own matches were watched by good crowds (8 or 9000) beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in the second game, Tajikistan beat Cambodia 3-0
This also left the final ground matches as umimportant, but Maldives against Tajikistan practically filled the stadium, still no goals.
Kyrgyzstan beat Cambodia 4-3 in the final game, to claim third spot.
Group D (Nepal)
North Korea beat the hosts Nepal by 1-0 yesterday, following an opening 4-0 win over Sri Lanka
Nepal opened with a 1-0 win over Afghanistan, while Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in their second game.
That means two stadiums will be used for tomorrows final fixtures.
Palestine, the Philippines, India, Turkmenistan, the Maldives and Tajikistan have reached the finals
North Korea and Nepal are favourites to follow them
The final venue will be chosen from the eight finalists, but January/February dates (as scheduled) would be unsuitable for playing in Nepal, Turkmenistan or Tajikistan. I am not certain that the Maldives has a second stadium if they need one for the final games. Palestine would be an obviously awkward location, and the North Koreas are unlikely to want to stage a tourney.
The 2008 finals were played in India, and were reportedly a nightmare, with small crowds except the final, which suffered a venue and date switch after the weather stopped the original match from being played.
I'll be looking out for the venue. I have to choose between this and the African Nations Cup.
The Nations Cup is split between Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, both of which charge over £100 for visas - it will be an expensive trip flight wise as well, but the football will be better in Africa.
