But at the head of this publication is a Mr Murdoch of News International . I hope you will therefore boycott all of his businesses ie Sky etc ?
And don't expect politicians to take any action as they are frightened of what damage his media output can do to their campaigns .
It would be great if the Great British public for once stood up , united , and said this is a step too far and stopped subscribing to this mans companies , but no it will be agreed it is horrible but then attention turns to Sky Sports News for all the latest rumours and gossip of which Premiership team is buying who and lo and behld these moves never materialise !

I take it this is a joke of some kind?

Even aside from the control of Murdoch et al, the state of the print media in this country is very depressing, although I'm not sure whether the producers or the audience are the problem (i.e. is this crap forced on people, or do the general public like it?). Papers seem to rely on four main things for sales: anger-generating stories (usually immigration or "overpaid" public sector workers), scare stories (things causing cancer, house price falls), bad science ("research suggests") and celebrity gossip. The remaining content which is supposedly news is usually more influenced by their political opinion than facts. Even institutions like the Telegraph and Times have fallen prey to much of the above (the Times seems to have been much more politicised recently, which is a shame as it used to be the only paper I bothered reading regularly). My experience of local media is that its non-sport coverage tends to rely solely on attacking the local council to generate anger/sales.

When papers like the Sun change the party they support and then mercilessly attacks the ones it used to, it reminds me very much of the part of 1984 when the chap making the speech at the rally suddenly has to change the enemy from Eastasia to Eurasia in the middle of it.

I have never subscribed to a newspaper, but I do have a subscription for Private Eye. It's just a shame that what makes it into there often does not appear in the mainstream media.

So has the papers content actually deteriated since they started hacking into phones? Crazy In the 60`s/70`s the paper was always known as News Of The Screws because of the alledged affairs it printed (Some even turned out to be trueShocked) I think what the papers reporters are said to have done will lead to criminal actions taken against them as if I have got it right they hacked into Milly Dowlers mobile and deleted her mailbox. That must surely be a case of destroying evidence isnt it? Unimpressed

How eloquently and accurately put fanatic.

The highlighted part is the very reason that I had not bothered to purchase a 'news' paper until recently when I have started taking editions of I!
Although in no way perfect at least it operates a policy of brevity and information over opinion and political stance.

I stopped subscribing to Sky sometime ago over my feelings against those who run it, and have to say I haven't missed it at all, and find myself £ 576.00 per year better off as well. Like many (I am sure) I was just letting my subscription run and run. You should have seen the offers they threw at me once I left, but I had great pleasure telling them where to stick their offers.

So does this mean you stopped buying it in 2002. You know, when the hacking of Milly Dowler's phone took place, and presumably when you noticed this obvious reduction in quality.

Or do you mean that now you know they did something nine years ago, you've gone off it, having been perfectly happy with it in the meantime?

I don't think anybody can condone the alleged hacking of Millie Dowler's phone but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Do we want a perfect press that is controlled by the government or do we want a press which is not always perfect but is free to report on whatever it sees fit to do so, the MP's expense's for example? And don't these self righteous MP's relish the chance to get some sort of revenge on the press now?

If you don't like Murdoch then don't buy his products, I certainly don't.

Have to choose my words carefully, but having worked in said den of iniquity for many years,
and knowing how ego led owners and editors are, I find it totally incredulous that the
hierarchy of any 'National' would not be aware of what was going on in the engine room.
A Sunday Sun may be the way forward for the Murdoch empire but at this moment in time,
according to a text just received, there isn't a dry glass left in the house at the Mirror Group.

Thoughts - Why have the documents in regards to Millie Dowler's/Soham/Servicemens phone tapping only come out this week? shouldn't holding onto to serious documents such as these until such time as they come of use to other press organisations be seen as either aiding and abetting a criminal offence or obstructing the police?

Until such time as we - the general public force the advertisers to pull the plug from all advertising at all News International publications/TV channels then nothing is ever going to change bar the name.

How Rupert Murdoch junior whatever his name is can say Rebekah Brookes has acted throughout with integrity is beyond me.

Anyone with any queries or need any help planning a trip to Fareham Town FC - give me a bell.

James Murdoch's defence of
Rebekah Brookes is quite staggering.

Poor old Rupert was himself being hounded by the press today.

Clearly there has to be a police investigation into what has gone on, how long that will take remains to be seen.

In fairness though there are a lot of reporters doing a very good job and uncovering a lot of wrong doing, it would be a shame if they all end up being tarred with the same brush.

And long may it continue. Let's hope they can find some really nasty dirt to publish about him. I say this not out of sympathy to all the celebs that get hammered but the ordinary people who, often through no fault of their own, have been caught up in a news story and been hounded by the press.

As for that Rebekah tart, let's hope they find a picture of her starkers and plaster it all over the front pages. She'd be screaming for an injunction in seconds whilst blubbing about breach of her privacy.

Was she not once married to actor and ' hardman ' Ross Kemp and did she not get held by the police for attacking him ?
Again I could well have my facts totally wrong but I seem to remember something along those lines from the ninties .

Photo's of her fully clothed are bad enough without pictures of her starkersWink!

I agree about celebs who are more than happy to embrace the media when it suits them but when this sort of thing happens to ordinary people who have suffered enough already it really is beneath contempt.
