London Broncos to play at Gillingham... Can't Post or Reply Privately

Bizarre... but looking forward to it. Wonder if this is in any way related to the Medway Ravens (or whoever they are) application to join the RL Championship?

Only for 1 game though, v Hull FC on 20 May. They're also playing a game at Leyton Orient as the Stoop is unavailable for a month.

I've not seen the club play, in any of its guises, since 2003, ironically also against Hull FC, in a match played at Griffin Park.

The last two Hull FC games I've seen have been draws, in fact three of the seven matches I saw in 2003 were draws. As I had deliberately tried to only go to games that looked like close affairs, I was rather pleased with myself.

Gareth: If you click on the link you'll see it's a 'one off game there', following a previous one at Leyton Orient.

But yes, in all their (re)incarnations since Fulham I dread to think how many venues they have played 'home' games at.

I've seen em at The Stoop, the first time they were the Broncos, and the Valley and at Griffin Park. I'd quite like them to team up with Saracens in their new ground but probably unlikely.

When they were still called Fulham I think they played a game at Stamford Bridge. I saw them play at Hendon's old ground twice in the mid-1990s and aside from the venues you list they've also played at the Crystal Palace athletics stadium (where you were allowed to stand on the track), Barnet Copthall (where Saracens want to move to?) and somewhere in Chiswick (before my time but I know it was fondly thought of by their supporters). Further afield I think they've also used Aberavon and Widnes for home games. I'm sure there are plenty of other venues that I'm unaware of.

This is good PR from the Broncos, RL has never really taken off in the South but there is a potential market in the South East for the Broncos to gain some support. Good luck to them.

The 'somewhere in Chiswick' was the Polytechnic ground which was just north of Chiswick Bridge on Great Chertsey Rd and Hartington Road. There was a stand on one side opposite which was a grass bank, which was kind of unusual in professional sport even then. Went a few times, liked it more than Crystal Palace mainly because it was easier to get to .I remember the bar was a trestle table with some cans of Aussie lager. Still called Fulham in those days.

I also saw a 'home game' at Bridgend vs Hull fc and there was one in Edinburgh, didn't go...may have been at Tynecastle.Think Barnet may have been used once too.....

Yeah, I'm convinced. That'll be why their website carries the full Crusaders history from 2006 then.

Pretty similar to football clubs like Nuneaton Town who are also a "new club" who amazingly have reached the FA Cup 3rd round (as an example) three times many years before they were formed Crazy

There is no definative answer to how many grounds have Fulham/ London etc used but the main ones ie for a season are
Craven Cottage
Polytechnic ( Chiswick)
Crystal Palace Sports centre
Copthall Stadium
Brentford FC
Stoop ( Harlequins)
Charlton and
Hendon ( I believe more than a few matches)
In London they also have placed once at Chelsea and Wealdstone and cup games at Kingstonian and Crawley Town
Leyton Orient and Gillingham make 14
They also played home matches in the north certainly at Leigh and I think Widnes
There have also been on the road games which counted as home games at Aberavon RU, Leciester RU, Newport RU, Bridgend RU and if playing in Wales was not enough played a home game in Perpignan in i think about 2005.
Thats 21 I know of and certainly no guarentee list is complete. I saw them at 8 but have been on all but Perpignan.

I can confirm the Stamford Bridge game, but do not recall the date (late-1980s/early 1990s?). One of 7 home grounds I've seen Fulham etc... play on. It was against a short-lived team from Cardiff or nearby in South Wales and was played on a Friday night before the Challenge Cup final at Wembley. The hope was to attract a big crowd - my recollection is that only a rather small crowd turned out.

My main memory of the evening was that you could sit wherever you liked in the East Stand. So I sat in a big comfy seat in the Director's Box in the middle tier. Ken Bates' seat I like to think.

Last Match: Ide Hill v AFC Mottingham
Last New Ground: King George Playing Fields, Westerham, kent (Ground No. 1,064)
Planned vists to new grounds: AFC Wallingford
0-0s 12/13: 2 (21 games since) - Av. goals 12/13: 3.54 - Av. crowd 12/13: 4,223

I can't add to the veues already listed but I've seen Featherstone play them during "the Crusaders era" at Copthall, Hendon FC and Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium.

Not sure it is good PR. As a season ticket holder i can't say i'm too pleased about two games tickets in my little black book (Broncos season ticket book) that i won't be going to.
Perhaps the Broncos should consider their current supporters before trying to convert others.
