Hellenic League 2012/13 Can't Post or Reply Privately

Start this one, sure it will run and run.

Shortwood going up, maybe replaced by Marlow ?.

Winterbourne awaiting news to see if they can go to the Western League.

Looks like both Abingdon United and Hungerford Town are withdrawing their Res sides from Div 1 East.

Trowbridge down from Div 1 West to Wilts League

Rumours (?)

Shrivenham merging with FC Sandford of Wilts League.

AFC Hinksey applying and sharing at Headington Ams, who may be getting lights and or a new ground in next year or so due to large extension of local housing estate.

Two more un-named clubs leaving Div 1 East - Henley and Finchampstead to Reading League ?.

A number of clubs withdrawing their Res sides from reserve section due to travelling / costs.

Wokingham & Emmbrook and Woodley Town merger always seems to be a constant rumour, but unless Wokingham get their own ground back I cant see anything happening. Seems only a matter of time before the West and East divisions are merged due to lack of teams.

It's not a rumour as such - it's a possibility for the future both clubs have looked into which has been publicly announced. It won't happen for a while, if at all, as there needs to be a new football ground built somewhere, possibly Cantley Park, first.

Shortwood are up.

Marlow are down. Surely to the Hellenic? Lovely ground by the way...but wouldn't that make two Marlows in the Hellenic?

Nobody coming up, at least, not that we know about. Doubtless more switching will occur between D1E and W I give up all hope of clearing D1W have needed 2 clubs for about 3 seasons now....

Milton Utd Reserves and Abingdon Utd Reserves have both applied to join the NBFL.
Not sure the Shrivenham and FC Sanford is a merger, more a case of the FC manager moving over and bring his players with him.

Think the Shrivenham / Sanford bit was from the Hellenic chatboard, someone on there said about it - hope I am not quoting you !.

Are Wantage still in NBL, just that their manager told some travellers at a couple of games that the "A" team would be the reserves next season and one team was going, or are they going as reserves in Hellenic, or was his quote misunderstood !.

Rumours (?)

Two more un-named clubs leaving Div 1 East - Henley and Finchampstead to Reading League ?.

A number of clubs withdrawing their Res sides from reserve section due to travelling / costs.

... news to the chap who plays for their Reserves and posts on HNA - though freely admits he does'nt know that much about the 1sts.

He thought it unlikely for next season as they'd had just had their best finish in years - I s'pose the fact they're unlikely to ever get lights is something they'd have to consider for their playing future?

Milton Utd had scotched similar rumours about them leaving for NBFL - these started up in April when I believe a lot of their 'luminaries' left the club?

Not sure who that leaves re 1sts departing from the East - doubt if it's Chinnor who keep promising to upgrade. Maybe Letcombe back to NBFL, Penn & T down to Wycombe Leagues or Rayners L transferring over to CCL/SSM - have they finally got lights yet?

... there lets see if that causes any ripples! Tongue

Couple of travallers have had a look at the ground and tell me it looks almost complete and will be the third pitch / ground on the complex used by the first team.

At the start of April pitch was fully railed, two Atcost stands on the side nearest the main road, one seating one standing, though placed in such a way that the dugouts would obscure most of the view of one half of the pitch for most of those choosing to sit. Four floodlight pylons that side, but only two the other...might give off acceptable light, but seemed strange there was only two. Pitch looked in good condition. Programme for the game v Didcot Res suggested work on the new amenities was due to start in June 11 and be ready by Xmas 11.

It will be those sides 2nd/3rd season at that level. The SSML are probably not accepting any NEW reserve sides at Step 6.

Shortwood's reserves can't go from the GNSL (they were champions) to Glos Co this season as that league now say they will no longer take reserve sides. The two in situ are allowed to stay.

That's quite a gulf in standard between the levels that Shortwood's firsts and reserves play.

As Reserve leagues go I think Hampshire have a model set-up inviting all the Step 2-4/5 sides, irrespective of what division the 1st team plays in, to form a county wide Reserve League.

The Suburban League's similar. That goes from League 2 to step 6.
In the refereeing pyramid the Suburban Premier Divisions are supply leagues, the same as most step 5 leagues, so there are some teams who have their first team and ressies playing at the same level.

Announced today that Winterbourne have been accepted into the Western League Premier Division. That, combined with Trowbridge (Wilts County League), Abingdon Utd Res and Hungerford Town Res (both resigning) leaving - surely creating a shortage of step 6 Hellenic sides when it comes to running two divisions, has led to Mr. King admitting the Hellenic Premier could run with 20 teams next year.

If the Hellenic are not careful they will soon end up just covering Oxfordshire, West Berkshire and the Swindon area. Gloucestershire seems to be throwing it's lot in with the Western League, Herefordshire has gone completely from the Hellenic footprint. Every season there are rumours that one or two of the Thames Valley / West London clubs have applied to the CoCo, Flackwell Heath wanted to go to the SML when they were relegated. Add to this the number of clubs that will never get there grounds upto the required standard due to planning issues, etc and will eventually go. We only need the Mid Comb to take the likes of Easington and Hook Norton both clubs are becoming out on a limb in the Hellenic and the league will really be struggling.

Hellenic 2012/13 ??????? - completely made up, no inside knowledge what so ever.

Premier Division - Abingdon Tn, Ardley, Ascot, Binfield, Cheltenham Saras, Flackwell, Highmoor, Highworth, Holyport, Kidlington, Marlow, Newbury, Oxford City, Reading, Shrivenham, Slimbridge, Thame, Wantage, Witney, Wokingham (20).

Div One East - Bracknell, Chalfont, Chinnor, Didcot Res, Finchampstead, Headington, Henley, Hinksey, Lambourn, Letcombe, Maidenhead Res, Milton, Penn &TG, Rayners, Thatcham Res, Woodley (16).

Div One West - Brimscombe, Carterton, Cirencester Develop, Clanfield, Cricklade, Easington, Gloucester Devlop, Hook Norton, Lydney, Shortwood Res, Malmesbury, New College, Old Woodstock, Purton, Tytherington, Wootton Bassett (16).

Missing Fairford Town from that list, who would go into Division One West if the Premier was reduced to 20. Gloucester City Development would be the logical reserve side to 'promote' rather than Shortwood given how things have worked with promoting second XIs in the past few seasons, but then again I've heard their facilities are extremely basic (unless they've made alternate arrangements for this coming season).

By my rough calculations there are 19 floodlit teams in Division One West and East. Take out the reserve and non-floodlit teams and you're left with 15/16 sides, which would be viable at step six. In that situation - with 20 in the Premier - you could relegate one more than you promote for a couple seasons and be left with an 18 team Premier and 18 team Division One.

From 2013/14 there will be a minimum requirement of 20 teams in Step Five leagues.
