I am trying hard to know how to answer this without risking flames or a libel suite.

In recent years a number of clubs have been promoted form the Wessex. Sholing, AFC Totton, Gosport Boro (still hurts) Poole Town and Wimborne spring to mind. All have done reasonably well, perhaps with the exception of Wimborne. To do well in this division you need either a well run club, a reasonable budget or both.

You seem to have conveniently over-looked Winchester City and Andover

Andover was an omission but maybe I can be forgiven as they did withdraw before the season started. Winchester were mentioned and indeed were the real focus of the post although your response shows that I did not make it clear.

My point is that Winchester City will struggle as they do not have the squad or a big budget (based on average attendances). Though others have smaller budgets, they have battle hardened squads and management. Merthyr are just the opposite and with big crowds and a bigger player pool locally, should do well in this league.

I should also point out that although I have tried to be balanced in what I have written, Winchester City are not my favourite club being one of the few clubs that have visited Poole in the last few years that have, in my opinion, behaved badly (club officials not fans).

Possible cause for concern at Folkstone Invicta

so may still be a reprieve beckoning for Whyteleafe if no new saviour for Folkstone comes in time.

Hardly, it's just a cry for volunteers. I'd be very surprised if they don't get a few people coming forward to help, a club that size.

One observation I have on STEP 4 for next season.

Royston Town to Southern 1 Central is a bit strange and out on a limb.

It would have made more sense to switch Potters Bar from Ryman North to Southern 1 Central with Royston promoted to Ryman North ?

We had this last season as well when Ware were going to be switched to S1C, when they are further east than Potters Bar

Clubs - 119 (Grounds 123)

2012/13 - Fareham Town, Poole Town, US Portsmouth, Bournemouth Poppies, Sholing, Alton Town, Gillingham Town, Alderbury, Bashley, Alresford Town, Gosport Borough

Possibly SL1C was the preference that Royston asked for and FA took note of it, or possibly not.

I think there's a general reluctance to switch teams between divisions, perhaps for fear of needing to switch them back - which was supposed not to happen within 3 years. Promoted teams don't have that guarantee when initially placed.

-----------------------------------------------
Last new football ground (438) Beck Lane Bay Athletic 2-1 Ovenden West Riding (13/5)
With FC United: 83 - and looking forward to one in Moston in 2014-5 (touchwood)!
On the agenda:
Osters v AIK (19/5)
Hammarby v Landskrona (20/5)

As a supporter of a club which has been switched six times in seven years, I hope I may be forgiven for being skeptical about the statement above.
