Shotts Bon Accord fixture pile up Can't Post or Reply Privately

Tonight's key match in the West Region Division One between Shotts Bon Accord and Kilsyth Rangers was postponed because of the weather, meaning that Shotts are left with 9 League matches and at least 3 cup ties to be played in the 23 days remaining to the official end of the season. To make matters worse, Shotts will only be playing one midweek match next week in the run-up to the Scottish Junior Cup final on Sunday 27 May.

This means that after playing the Scottish final they will have a minimum of 9 matches to play in 12 days (including Sundays).

What is the official end date for the season? Can it be extended? Can Shotts miss out on some cups to get the league completed?

The Shotts website mentions not competing in the Evening news Cup, that would be one less game to worry about !!!

Disappointed the game was not called off earlier last night, saving me the journey, hey ho !

Or to play two matches on one day. In the past, cup finals and their replays have been played on the same day!

I'm sure there is relief all round that Shotts will not be playing in the Evening Times Cup.

Also discussed on the Pie and Bovril forum http://www.pieandbovril.com/...ba-v-kilsyth-rangers. The Shotts secretary and the referee couldn't get to the ground before as they both had a job to attend to.

I've often wondered how referees and people associated with English step 3-6 clubs can do pitch inspections during the day on workdays.

What the SBA site ACTUALLY says is:

Quote
That would leave five matches for June, which is just about do-able, depending on when they want to schedule the ETC matches which, the way things are looking at the moment, probably won't involve Shotts Bon Accord, so theoretically they don't need to wait on us finishing our league campaign before embarking on that end-of-the-season jamboree.

It's an OPINION that the ETCWC will "probably" not involve Shotts. But if they WIN the D&D final vs Clydebank a week on Wednesday they WILL be in the draw, playing in QF1. If they keep winning league games, they could be Super League Div1 champs and play in QF4 instead. AFAIK there has been NO SUGGESTION that they could decline an ETCWC place!

I look forward to seeing Shotts fixtures for the rest of the season then - especially if SBA take the ET Cup seriously.

Having watched Shotts come back from 2-0 down on Monday to defeat Pollok on pens in the D&D QF and considering the run of good results they have had (e.g. winning 3-4 away to Whitletts today) they seem to have plenty stamina and will to win despite their demanding schedule. Postponements due to weather seem to be their worst adversary. Wouldn't put it past them to win the Junior Cup, D&D AND Div 1.

A heads-up for anybody thinking of targetting Saturday 2nd June's only Juniors West declared fixture (so far - there will be others) : Shotts Bon Accord v Glenafton.
Shotts' Hannah Park is the venue for the town's Highland Games that day, so that fixture won't go ahead and Shotts Bon Accord will surely be playing one of their outstanding AWAY games that day instead (of which there are several).

Congratulations to Shotts winning the 'big one' yesterday, and with it entry into the Scottish FA Cup.
Good luck in their quest to win the Super Div 1 title too as they work through their backlog of fixtures.

But their upcoming opponents won't be lying down :

Tue 29th May 7.30 : Shotts v Kilsyth (Kilsyth must win to guarantee at least the 3rd-place playoff spot)
Thu 31st May 7.30 : Shotts v Clydebank (D&D Programmes Central League Cup Final, at Pollok)
Sat 2nd June 2.00 : Hurlford Utd v Shotts (Hurlford must win to have any chance of avoiding relegation)
Mon 4th June 7.30 : Shotts v Glenafton (Glenafton, already guaranteed promotion, can only be pipped for the title by Shotts)

thereafter, four more TBA :
Shotts v Girvan (a Girvan win guarantees they avoid relegation)
Cumbernauld v Shotts )
Thorniewood v Shotts ) all three opponents safe in mid-table with nothing left to play for.
Rutherglen Glencairn v Shotts )

And folks down south think the season has already finished !

1 Glenafton Athletic 25 56-30 52
2 Renfrew 26 63-48 45
3 Kilsyth Rangers 25 57-44 43
4 Shotts Bon Accord 19 48-29 39

With 2 automatic promotion places and a play-off v Pollok for the 3rd placed team it means:

with a win against Kilsyth, Shotts would need four points from their remaining 6 matches for automatic promotion.

A draw against Kilsyth would mean 6 points from 6 matches and a loss to Kilsyth means 8 points needed from 6 matches.

All this assumes an inferior goal difference for Shotts, so in reality they might require one point fewer.

Of course if they end up in third place they have another two play-off matches to look forward to.

Amazing how Shotts rise to the challenge and keep winning.

Does anyone have any knowledge on the scheduling of their remaining games? The SJFA website only shows fixtures until this weekend not even the Monday game against Glenafton is on the website.

I think they'll all be published on Saturday night / Sunday.

Once the Central and Ayrshire Cup Finals are out of the way it might be possible to produce a near complete fixture list for the rest of the season.

If Shotts can get another 4 league points on Saturday / Monday then the 2 leg Play Off can also be scheduled (Pollok v Renfrew).

ShockedShocked

It must be a right nuisance for a team like Girvan who haven't played for some time now and only have the one outstanding match against Shotts waiting with relegation, or not, depending on it.

A right nuisance for hoppers too but I fully understand the games aren't primarily for hoppers. That said, a more rigid fixture schedule could possibly entice some fleeting local spectators as well.

Re: [ArchieB] Shotts Bon Accord fixture pile up [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Was at the Hurlford 1 Shotts 0 game today. The result relegates East Kilbride along with Lanark and Dalry and it puts Hurlford in 10th place one point ahead of Girvan, who will need a 1-1 draw or better in their last game to reverse the order and send Hurlford down to the Ayrshire League.
The punishing schedule of games that Shotts are experiencing is clearly taking its toll - a 3-0 loss to Clydebank in the CLC final on Thursday and now this. Have they hit a brick wall after winning the big cup?

This result prolongs Pollok's wait to see who they will face in the Premier/Div1 play-off.

It also brings about the intriguing possibility that, if Girvan and Shotts draw 0-0 next Saturday, Girvan and Hurlford will be equal on points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head results.
Would relegation be decided on games won (Hurlford 10, Girvan 8) or a play-off or what? Anyone know?

Hurlford United's 1-0 home win over Shotts today has set the cat amongst the pigeons at the bottom of Division One.

East Kilbride are now condemned to relegation along Lanark and Dalry relegated long ago. Girvan visit Shotts on 9 June with a draw being enough to escape relegation and at the same time drop Hurlford into the 4th relegation spot. (Girvan and Hurlford have identical goal difference but Girvan, currently a point behind Hurlford have scored more goals).

10 Hurlford United 26 44-49 34
------------------------------------
11 East Kilbride Thistle 26 43-61 34
12 Lanark United 26 35-34 33
13 Girvan 25 45-50 33
14 Dalry Thistle 26 31-79 7

Positions 8 and 13 are currently separated by ONE point.

All game smust be finished by 1pm on the third Saturday in June.

Not unknown for teams to play on the Saturday morning!

I know in the past clubs have applied to have the season extended. Largs Thistle won the West of Scotland Cup on the 22nd June 1991.
The following season, Beith Juniors played four matches beyond the third Saturday in June with games on the 22nd, 24th, 25th and 27th.
I wonder what would happen in the unlikely situation where Shotts only picked up three points from the final five games and were involved in the play-offs. Their final league game is on 13th June.
