Ryman League Expansion 2013/14 Can't Post or Reply Privately

Each ryman division will consist of 24 teams rather than the present 22 for the 2013/14 season. This means only 2 will be relegated from the prem this season and 1 each from north/south. It seems this to allow further promotion spots into step 4.

I always feel for clubs like Aveley & Leatherhead who miss out on this by a year! But I suppose the argument is, they knew what the rules were before the competition etc etc......just seems unfair that 2 clubs in those positions this season will escape, but what can you do?

I see it was stressed that the bottom club in each division one will be relegated and there is no question of a reprieve.
But using last season as an example would Whyteleafe have stayed up because Croydon Athletic were really bottom.
When they issue statements the leagues never seem to cover all the possibilities.

The "no reprieve" rule was an FA directive. The point is that a team that fails to complete its program must have its record expunged and the lowest ranked team that finish the season will be relegated.

Here's the question then. Supposing that a reprieve would have been in order, but is quashed by the directive - where would it then show up instead?
Presumably the highest placed, best-ppg achiever across the boards would get it? Surely that however, would be increasing the likelihood of drift occurring, which I thought was being seen-off by all these new arrangements? Perhaps there's an automatic 'within-league' preference to reduce its effect?

Which means that they have effectively relegated two clubs.
The mathematics put off balance right from the start.

I think that the idea is that any promotion or relegation must be for football reasons. Apart from the Southward Drift, the other issue is in-league or in-step reprieves that lead to stagnation at all levels.

Any league that has either no promotion, no relegation and no one relegated from leagues above will stagnate OR decline. My local step 5 league, The Wessex, is a good example. Over the past decade, the top clubs have been promoted but there have been few relegated clubs from Step 4. The result is that the league is much weaker than it was 5 years ago. Ironically this also weakens the Leagues above as they also need more new blood.

While there are many things wrong with the NLS, each small step forward should be applauded even if it does not go far enough. I can't think of the arguments now, but I am sure some failed clubs would survive if relegated and allowed to regroup at a lower level.

Shame, I was hoping the leagues would go for 4down/3+3up, rather than the Step 3 protectionist 2down/2+2up they have adopted.

I'm presuming the rule will only apply to clubs in the normal relegation positions. Thus if 3 teams from a 22 club league should get relegated then the club which finishes 19th will not get relegated even if 3 others are expelled. But if 2 clubs dissapear then the 20th place club would get relegated regardless of other factors. That would make sense to me anyway.

While I'm all in favour of rewarding successful teams rather than letting poor teams off the hook, I'm not sure the "bottom club will always go down" statement can be that black and white. What if a team were 16 points adrift and dropped out with five games remaining? Could you really justify sending someone down because they'd dropped out? What if it was only ten points with five games left but they'd lost loads on the bounce and were shipping loads of goals?
I imagine it will remain an aim for a side to always be relegated rather than it being set in stone.

I suspect it'll be that one team from each division will be relegated or demoted (or has folded). Currently you could have the bottom side in a full division complement being reprieved due to a multi-step demotion / folding in a higher level.
