January for me.

Cold, dark, depressing.

I'm not a huge fan of winter. June is one of my fave months.

I don't mind proper winters - bright and cold or snowy. The winters of childhood. I hate gloomy, wet Januaries. I hate October and the realisation that summer has gone.

I don't like October and November because of the shortening hours of light at least when you get to December you know by the 21st everything is going the other way.

June is my least favourite month. There's competitive matches (in England) from August to May and at least in July the fixtures gradually get released and I can put together a few plans. June is like being in a nether world of uncertainty. This year is made worse by the fact there's no European Championships or World Cup Finals which would take up a significant portion of the month. Unsure

January for me. Was particularly bad when living in France - often would not see any family before Easter and it's dark until 9 a.m.

June's my favourite month. Not too hot but lots of daylight.

Waking at 5am becomes a drag, especially November-March.

June to August inclusive are my favourite - usually means end of exams and the summer holiday!

January and February are probably the worst.

Ode to June
I love this time of the year.
I don't have to call staff in to de-ice or snow plough roads.
The water mains at work don't burst due to the frost getting deep into the ground.
The journey into work is not fraught with snowy and icy roads and vehicles stuck in front of me.
There is rain, but you know that if its a wet day a nice day is just around the corner.
There's little in the way of fog either.
There's plenty of cherries, apricots and other fruits to nosh at work.
The idiot club secretaries in my league barely contact me with stupid inane questions or make paperwork errors.
I can sit and watch the cycling, tennis and cricket with hardly a care in the world.
And holidays are just around the corner [after which I am bankrupt for another 12 months].

"June Hymn"

Here's a hymn to welcome in the day
Heralding a summer's early sway
And all the bulbs all coming in,
To begin
The thrushes bleating battle with the wrens
Disrupts my reverie again

Pegging clothing on the line
Training jasmine how to vine
Up the arbor to your door,
And more
You're standing on the landing with the war
You shouldered all the night before

[Chorus:]
And once upon it
The yellow bonnets
Garland all the line
And you were waking
And day was breaking
A panoply of song
And summer comes to Springville Hill

A barony of ivy in the trees
Expanding out it's empire by degrees
And all the branches burst a' bloom
Into bloom
Heaven sent this cardinal, maroon
To decorate our living room

[Chorus:]
And once upon it
The yellow bonnets
Garland all the line
And you were waking
And day was breaking
A panoply of song
And summer comes to Springville Hill

And years from now
When this old light isn't ambling anymore
Will I bring myself to write
"I give my best to Springville Hill"

[Chorus:]
And once upon it
The yellow bonnets
Garland all the line
And you were waking
And day was breaking
A panoply of song
And summer comes to Springville Hill A beautiful little piece from the Decemberists

I agree.
My least favourite day of the year was always the first Monday after the clocks go back - several months of travel home from work in the dark.
Will see this year now that the four letter word has been banished..

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

======

Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;

Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
(That slepen al the nyght with open eye)
So priketh hem Nature in hir corages
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages

At least this year we've got the world cup to help break the monotony.
