Assuming their new ground is ready in time for the start of next season, Wymondham (London 3 Eastern Counties, L8) have just one home league game left at the Foster Harrison Memorial Field, and this takes place next Saturday 10th March vs Woodbridge (1500). Their remaining three games are all away. Ground is off Tuttles Lane, the B1165, on the northern edge of town. This match can be doubled with Norfolk v Gloucestershire FA County Youth Cup Semi-Final at the FDC, which kicks off at 1130.

As I understand it this will be the last 1st XV league game at the ground, their last fixture v Lowestoft & Yarmouth is off on 7th April as the visitors have accepted voluntary relegation.

As for the other local rugby union move, Norwich appear to have a while to wait yet. Not sure on exact state of play, but am aware not action what so ever has occured at new site.

Watford FC supporter hence the name also follow Hull FC but rarely get to see either these days.

Have now visited over 800 grounds, progress in recent years has been rather slow and will continue to be as things stand.

From the Chairmans Message on Norwich's website:

'Our relocation plans are still live but have stalled. Whilst we have achieved a planning consent at Colney Lane we will not progress further until we know we can secure the best outcome for the club. With that in mind we have at least a couple of seasons to go at Beeston Hyrne and it is incumbent on us all to ensure we continue to move forwards in that period and are not distracted in our desire to progress'.

Now that I don't have to rush to their final home league game this coming Saturday I can instead attend the far more appealing top two clash in London 1 North - Chingford v Brentwood (99 points each).Cool

Otley plan to sell their Cross Green ground to a housing developer. It will become retirement flats. The National League Two (North) club are to relocate to a site further along the A659, in the Pool direction. The land earmarked is close to the existing grounds of Otley Town FC and Old Otliensians RUFC. Learned this afternoon from spectators at Otley Cricket Club, whose ground is adjacent to Otley RUFC. No timetable has been fixed.

To add some flesh to the bones above: the site for Otley's new ground is alongside the pitches (that's pretty much all they are) used by Otley Town FC and Old Otliensians RUFC, and across the A659 (Pool road) from 600 houses about to be built. The land lies east of the proposed East of Otley relief road (central Otley is a hideous traffic bottleneck), which will connect the A659 with the A660 (Leeds road). It is green belt but Otley are confident they'll get it past planners using the exceptional circumstances clause. Otley hope to have nine pitches (Cross Green has just one) at the new site. Three will be adult size, with one (the second XV pitch) 4G. Estimated cost is up to 4m. Retirement developer McCarthy & Stone is buying six-acre Cross Green, Otley's home since 1921. Cross Green will become an "assisted living complex" (what a fabulous example of silly jargon). An overwhelming majority of Otley members voted for the sell-off and relocation. No word on timescale but it needs to happen soon because the prospect of 6m funding, awarded to Leeds City Council, for the relief road could be withdrawn if the project isn't moved along quickly.

This is presumably the ground where the North beat the All Blacks back in the day in front of the proverbial packed house?

If so I must put away my prejudices for a day and visit to pay respects.

Between 7,000 and 8,000 were shoehorned into Cross Green for a match everyone seemed to sense would be special. According to Smith, who confessed himself 'shit scared' by the Haka, Cotton walked past during its performance and said: 'Look at the big poofs dancing.' To which a Smith replied: 'Frannie. Will you keep your voice down. They might hear you.' All Smith could remember of Beaumont's final team talk in the sardine tin-sized dressing room was: 'We've lost the toss and they have decided to kick off. So for the first five minutes ignore the ball

Yes, that's right. A ground that's interesting enough to make worthwhile watching 80 minutes of rugby union. These days, for most Otley matches, about 300 flock to Cross Green.

Newport (Salop) are looking to raise 100,000 by August 2019 to secure their long-term future at the Old Showground, the Midland Premier club's home since 1981. If the target is reached, the RFU has agreed to lend Port an additional 100,000. The club's landlord, a group of farmers, is keen to sell the site to a housing developer, and presumably make a small fortune in the process. If the club hand over 200,000 by next year's deadline, the farmers will grant them a 99-year lease. Port plan a number of fundraising ventures during the coming months, and are also asking for donations.

More on Otley from today's Rugby Paper:

Otley RUFC are in discussions with West Park Leeds and Ilkley Rugby Clubs about a temporary groundshare agreement after the sale of Cross Green went through last month, subject to planning permission, for an undisclosed figure.

Property magnate McCarthy & Stone have acquired Cross Green with a view to building a retirement village on the land. Ultimately, the plan is for the club to relocate to land on the east of the proposed East of Otley relief road, alongside Old Otliensians RUFC and Otley Town Football Club.

But even if the five inter linked planning applications go through smoothly, the rugby club will need to play elsewhere for at least a year.

Otley have to vacate Cross Green by January 2020 and the new premises, which it is hoped will include a new clubhouse, a 200-seat stand and terracing as well as at least nine pitches, will not be ready to use before the start of the following year.

Otley chairman Paul Mackie said: "We'll have a year of nomadic rugby and we're in negotiations with two willing local parties to play all our first team games there and also our junior and second team games. We haven't got signed agreements yet, but they are not far away."
