So it's the whole employer/employee thing you want to get rid of? Build the nation's economy on cooperatives instead? If so, would you expect this model to remain competitive on a world stage?

Good point - that's why socialism is internationalist, its needs to be on a world basis. I do of course realise this is a big ask, but I'm ambitious!

Your ever so slightly dismissing it as a hopeless cause when it isnt. Mad

It is. It really is. Simply ain't going to happen. But good luck trying to sell it, especially to the Americans.

Not when the world stage is hogged by multinational capitalists intent on exploiting workers and consumers.

Based on what? Where do you see the momentum for such a radical change to socialism on a global scale? And how is the change going to spread - gentle persuasion....?

Russell Brand isn't ruling out standing in the next London mayoral elections.

If the people of London can vote for Livingstone and Johnson surely they can vote for Brand.

Not sure he should stand in any elections, a cheerleader on the outside is his best role.

As a London resident I certainly won't be voting for Brand, regardless of what political party he is standing for.

Re: [non-league fan] Russell Brand on Newsnight [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Russell Brand was a guest on Radio 4's "Start the Week" programme this morning.

He complained that the media were focussing solely on his "don't vote" message, whereas there were a lot of other ideas he was discussing, and in relation to voting he was really saying that he didn't think there was any party worth voting for. At which the presenter suggested that he could vote for what he thought was the "least worst" party. A remark that, as you can imagine, Brand seized gleefully on, saying how really, truly inspirational was the idea of voting for the Least Worst party. Cool

Brand went on to point out that currently many people's idea of the Least Worst party was UKIP.

It depends on who else is put forward, but if it's a choice between a bunch of career politicians and Brand, I'd probably vote for him.

One of the main problems with modern-day politics is that so many of them have spent their entire careers in politics, starting as researchers/spads/parliamentary assistants etc.

Surely the issue isn't whether some post grads in politics, actually go into a career in politics. I'm sure you can't penalise someone, for actually going down a set career path, which they had their heart set on. What is they main problem, which I believe turns people of politics and politicians, is the lack of conviction politicians and whipping system. That is why I've always admired 'The Beast of Bolsover' Dennis Skinner, as I'm sure most people agree that he is a conviction politician. Even if you don't agree with his politics. I'm sure Katy Perry will agree with most of us, that Russell Brand is an enormous phallus and is well shot of the twat!
