Thanks Windy! Very helpful of you post that list. I assume the "Southern Combination" inserted there is just an error and doesn't replace a team?

I've updated my spreadsheet's second tab with the list of the clubs that have applied. Any news of existing ground grading would be great so I can turn them blue. Also, the year they got the grading would be great so I don't have to ask again next year like I am now Wink

South Shields had a fans Q&A with the management on Thursday and the issue of the ground was mentioned in it

Quote
Question: Are there any plans to further develop Mariners Park next summer, and anything in place to change the floodlights?

Michael Orr (Managing Director): We took over the running of the club 18 months ago, and the first thing we did was put a five-year plan together for the ground. It is well-documented that Geoff Thompson wants to take the club to the Conference. There is a masterplan for the ground which would allow us to get to the Conference here. There are some issues, such as the parking, and we’re looking at various solutions. With the ground, there was a lot of investment in each of the last two summers, and how we go on with that in the five-year plan is in a lot of ways led by how successful the team is. Next summer, I don’t envisage a great deal of changes made to the ground, apart from those we need to make for ground grading issues to be eligible for promotion. Next season, depending on the crowd figures and where we’re at, we’ll look at where we stand regarding further changes we can make to the ground. Regarding the floodlights, there is nothing in the pipeline to change them. As part of our promotion application, we had to have the lux levels of the lights tested, and they passed with no problem at all. There’s very little we have to do to pass those grading issues.

Understand that Bridlington Town will take promotion this season - ten league wins on the bounce has taken them up to third

They applied in 2009/2010, won the league, then refused promotion due to the increased travel costs (if my memory's right). I'm not sure what will have changed this season?

Must admit Brids Chairman... Peter Smurthwaite's change of heart as took me by surprise too.

Pete's made no secret that life at Step 4 was too expensive for the club, and credit to him for putting the clubs well-being first. He reiterated the same to a Chairman friend if mine, also from an Ncel Prem club only weeks ago.

What's changed recently to bring this change of heart seems a little strange; this season of all seasons, given the fact that the revenue they receive from Scarborough Athletic will be ending at the end if this season as 'Boro' will be making their long awaited return to their home town to the newly constructed Weaponness Sports Village next May.

In effect financially, there's a home fixture every weekend. Ground rental, assistance in maintaining the pitch and the bar takings from the regular 400+ plus crowds Boro attract seems to be a massive void for them to fill next season to me.....strange!!!

Nomadic Footie Fan in search of a decent game.

Thought they were suffering deep financial woes, with earlier season talk positing possible bankruptcy.

No, but from pictures I've seen from it, it looks much better than a lot of step 4 grounds I've been to. People often say to me I over care about things. Have you been there?

As recently as last Tuesday - it's only 5 miles away from me. Lye are in the upper reaches of the Midland League and still attract no more than when they were long-time members of the WMRL and I doubt they'd attract many more irrespective of what division they were in. To all intents and purposes it's a two-sided ground and they've never had cash to splash. Moving into a league that could involve regular round trips of 200 miles would not be attractive I'd say, and with two bigger clubs in Halesowen and Stourbridge both only a couple of miles away, players who don't mind "distance" games have those to choose from if they're good enough.
It took Lye an eternity to emerge from the WMRL and I don't see them rushing too much to move up another level - it could break them and besides, they don't really need it. At their level, it's about sustainability, not blind or reckless ambition, much to the chagrin of the spreadsheet boys.

One thing I think we can safely say is Bishop Auckland will pass the Ground Grading with no problems, especially seeing as Darlington 1883 have been ground-sharing with them 3 divisions higher

I did not think they would bother to apply because of the problems over ownership of the ground.
But reading all the stuff on twitter thats going around its seems that they did apply but probably because of the problems have not been included on the list.
Presumably pending getting a successful conclusion to the ground issues they think they can be placed on the list.
All very confusing but thats football.
