Oxford RL and Gloucestershire All Golds RL To Fold Can't Post or Reply Privately

The RFL have announced that Oxford and Gloucestershire All Golds have folded and will not compete in 2018. In the usual way of the RFL's way of dealing with things, they have wrapped it up in an announced of a brand new franchise happening in time for the 2019 based in Bristol. There is no indication as to which ground this new franchise might use.

Or no clue where the significant investment will come from to make it happen.

I believe Bristol are a lot more advanced than they are saying publicly. The identity of those setting the club up is known to the RFL. The RFL have made it clear Bristol will have to prove they can meet the new return on investment tests spelt out a couple of weeks ago.

For Bristol to have a reserved, if provisional, place shows the RFL are happy with what they are seeing and hearing to date.

Been heavily rumoured on a prominent Rugby League website that this would happen. It was claimed that all the Oxford Director's pulled out before the season had ended and the club was being run by the coach.

Not true. Adrian Smith and Tony Colquitt were normally present until the end of the season. Adrian missed the last home game due to work commitments however Tony was there.

Discussions about the clubs future began mid season. It was obvious to all of us the end was nigh, the gates were woeful. I strongly suspect expenditure was carefully controlled as the end drew in however the directors had not walked away.

.

'For Bristol to have a reserved, if provisional, place '

Talking to a RFL official today it would appear that this not the case as yet, and there's a long way to go.

What I am hearing is that there is an expectation that a place is available if they meet the new value tests set out at the end of last season. It certainly isn't a given that this will happen. They have work to do if they are to play in 2019.

It's also worth noting there may well be a few changes at the top of the RFL before the 2019 season so the whole situation could change if the new people think differently.

1st para. A more elegant way of saying what I was alluding to.

2nd para Hadn't thought of that. Good point, Roger
