It looks like the Belles will take the WSL2 title this season bit won't be promoted. The Belles have not applied for a licence to play in WSL1 and after being shafted by the FA a few seasons ago when they were told they would be relegated from WSL1 no matter where they finished then it seems as though WSL2 will be the summit for the Belles.

Their not applying is nothing to do with their forced relegation a few years back. Rather, it's to do with the insistence by the FA that clubs fund a full-time squad, which rules out a lot of deserving clubs who are not funded by major men's clubs.

There is all sorts of sh*te spouted by the FA about why this is the best way forward, but the only positive that can be gained by it is that the best players will want to play in the league. For anyone who is interested in football beyond the national side and the top few club sides this means nothing as it denies the chance to the rest for progress.

Doncaster Rovers belles are in discussions to integrate with Doncaster Rovers. This could give the the financial resources they need to get a WSL1 licence.
