John Harriss (A.F.C. Bournemouth groundsman) Can't Post or Reply Privately

All at A.F.C. Bournemouth were sad to hear of the passing of former head groundsman, referee liaison officer and lifelong Cherries fan John Harriss (note the double "s") on Sunday evening (14th January 2018), aged 88.

John's time on the staff at Dean Court started in 1970, spending 37 years as the club's groundsman, before moving to a role as referee liaison officer on matchdays. On Sunday , John spent the afternoon at home watching his beloved Cherries earn their historic first victory over Arsenal.

In 2013 John's contribution with the Cherries was recognised as he was awarded a high commendation for the Unsung Hero Award at the Football League Awards in London.

John had his 15 minutes of fame on 1st December 1984 when he was the victim of a prank on Noel Edmonds' Late, Late Breakfast Show. He arrived at work one morning to find molehills exploding all over the pitch if my memory serves me correctly after being set up by two players, Paul Morrell and Robbie Savage, who were speaking to Noel from a studio in Leeds following Cherries 1-0 defeat at Bradford City that day.
