Scottish club Rugby - Super Six Can't Post or Reply Privately

From 2019-20 Scottish club rugby will see the operation of a "Super Six" competition with six clubs having been granted semi-pro franchises aimed at narrowing the gap between Scotland's two full time professional clubs and Scottish club rugby.

The six chosen clubs are

Ayr
Melrose
Stirling County
Boroughmuir
Watsonians
Heriot's

Clubs will be associated with the pro teams and will entitled to field some squad members. It's also anticipated that they will participate in a new competition with Welsh and Irish clubs.

The format of the Super Six has still to be determined.

Glasgow Hawks are miffed that no Glasgow club has been selected, the Borders are miffed that only one Borders team has been selected, Dundee and Aberdeen are miffed that no club north of Stirling has been selected and everyone is miffed that three of the six club are from Edinburgh.

An interesting and, as you imply, slightly puzzling choice. How many fans would have picked that sextet, I wonder. Can you shed any light on selection criteria, Paul? What will happen to the rump of clubs in the four tiers of the National League?
