Newcastle area Saturday 8th Can't Post or Reply Privately

I'm up in Newcastle this weekend running the GNR on the Sunday. Planning on taking in a match on the Saturday afternoon, all of which (having never been to a match north of York or Harrogate before) are new ticks for me.

Not knowing the area particularly, which of these would people recommend:

Sunderland v Fleetwood Town

Northern League:
Newton Aycliffe v West Auckland Town
Crook Town v Brandon United
Heaton Stannington v Ryton & Crawbrook Albion
Jarrow v Redcar Athletic
West Allotment Celtic v Chester-le-Street Town
Birtley Town v Durham City

FA Cup:
Dunston UTS v North Ferriby United
Newcastle Benfield v Workington
South Shields v Garforth Town
Whitley Bay v Whitby Town

For characterful and reeking of history it's got to be Crook.

Whitley Bay's quite well developed with a fair bit of terracing and a good club shop, assuming it's still there.

Speaking of shops, check out The Back Page in Newcastle (they've a second outlet in the Metro Centre), the closest thing to Sportspages I've seen in years.

Always enjoy visiting clubs in these parts as they're often down to earth and friendly, Heaton Stannington being a good example.

Found Heaton Stannington most welcoming earlier in the season, other than that Whitley Bay is an interesting visit if you like the seaside and the ground is quite an impressive one, also looks like one of the more appealing games from your list?

I'm ''running'' the GNR as well and taking in South Shields v Garforth on Saturday.

Thanks for the various suggestions. Went with the Crook match, and can confirm that the ground is, indeed, delightful.

I took in the town of South Shields on the Sunday, and can also confirm that the hill up to it is an absolute killer, though I did see former glamour model Nell McAndrew breeze past me around about the 11 mile mark.
