East Juniors Update February 2019 Can't Post or Reply Privately

With fixtures running out for many clubs, focus will soon turn to the revamped League Cup. So far this has been played in 12 groups of 3 with teams playing home and away.

The 12 Group winners will progress to the Champions Group Stage, in 4 groups of 3, again playing Home and Away.

The groups are:

Group A
Broughty Ath
Downfield/Tayport
Carnoustie PM

Group B
Forfar WE/Kirriemuir
Lochee United
Dundee E Craigie

Group C
Kinnoull
Livingston United
Pumpherson

Group D
Thornton Hibs
Whitburn/ Armadale
Fauldhouse United

The other 24 clubs will go into a Consolation Cup competions the format of which has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile plans are being made for 2019/20. It seems likely that the East egion will be joining the "Pyramid" as a separate entity, with some overlap of territory with the East Seniors. To address issues of travelling there will be two sub-regions, one covering Tayside and one covering Fife / Lothians. Currently the East Region has 36 members and they hope to expand to 40 for next season, creating 2 leagues of 10 on Tayside, and 2 leagues of 10 in Fife / Lothians.

At least three new members are in the pipeline. Breadalbane (from Aberfeldy), who were knocked back a few years ago, are showing interest again and now have the necessary facilities. Two new Junior sides look likely to be formed in Linlithgow and Bo'ness, unconnected with Linlithgow Rose and Bo'ness United. The Bo'ness oufit wil share Newtown Park. The Linlithgow side will not be sharing Prestonfield.

I know of several other Amateur sides that have expressed an interest but I'm not sure if they will take things further.

The East Junior CHampions of 2019/20, assuming Pyramid membership comes by then, will join the East of Scotland, South of Scotland and WSest Junior Champions in Play Offs for a place in the Lowland League.

The East Seniors are unhappy about the overlap on what they see as their territory. However, the powers that be will see it as a small price to pay for integrating the Juniors into the system. The apparent discrepancy could be revisied several years down the line once things settle down.

One would think that after last season's mass defection, the teams in the East of Scotland (Senior) will be very unhappy that the rump Junior league is given equal status.
One even wonders if some may regret the move if this comes to pass and return to Junior Football

In the bigger picture the overlap in the East will be seen as a price worth paying to bring the West Juniors on board. It's a "work in progress" rather than the finished structure. Mind you, England doesn't seem to be able to conclude a final structure some 40 years down the line!

Yes, some of those who defected last year may regret it. A few of the smaller clubs may consider moving back. Those that will be in the new East of Scotland League Premier Division (i.e. the top 5 from each of the 3 Conferences) will probably be happy where they are.

It seems that Linlithgow Thistle, a leading amateur club, are moving to Bo'ness and becoming Bo'ness United JFC, part of the wider community club headed by Bo'ness United, formerly junior but now senior.

The 'new' club will share Newtown Park.

Confused - you will be Wink

Possibly a case of Bo'ness United having their cake and eating it.

And not without cause either. Mind you I can't see the rump East Junior winners (whoever they are) being a match for the EoS seniors, nor even the West Juniors for that matter,

And are the North Juniors being given step 6-9 status for a place in the Highland League? I'm a bit surprised Breadalbane of Aberfeldy aren't classified as North too.

Lochee United are a quality side. They are in the Semi Finals of the Scottish Junior Cup this season.

Aberfeldy is in Perthshire which is part of the old Tayside Region, therefore classed as East. They play in the Perthshire Amateur League. It also has no direct road links to the Aberdeen area. The quickest was from Aberfedly to Aberdeen takes you by Perthshire and Angus.

Last week the East Juniors approved their new league astructure for last season. In essence they are aiming for four leagues of ten - Sper leagues North and South, premier Leasgues North and South. The winners of the two Super Leagues will play off for the overall East Junior league flag.
The North Divisions will be Tayside and North Fife; South Divisions West Lothian and Central / South Fife.
Last night a meeting was held between officials of the East Juniors and the East of Scotland League (Seniors) to explore ways forward.

Following on from Linlithgow Thistle joining the East Juniors next season as Bo'ness United Juniors, Linlithgow Rose CSC will also be going Junior under the name Linlithgow Rose Juniors. Bo'ness will play at Newtown Park. Linlithgow Rose Juniors will play at Xcite Linlithgow, Kettilstoun Mains.

And just to add to the confusion, Xcite is Linlithgow Thistle's current ground.

Moderately surprised that Xcite has passed muster, though similar in set up to Rosyth. Might not be good enough for Scottish Junior Cup ties.

There's apparently a third new Junior club in the East for next season... Dunblane.
Unclear whether this is the existing 'Dunblane Soccer Club' amateur club stepping up. They are in the Caledonian Amateur League at the moment.
The new side will groundshare at Sauchie's Beechwood Park, about 11 miles from Dunblane.

And a fourth (and final) applicant confirmed - Syngenta, having been knocked back by the East Seniors.

Do we know how many league fixtures there are going to be? Are clubs in any (or even all) of the divisions going to play each other three times?

South Super, North Super and North Premier only.

The South Premier fixtures need to wait on the East of Scotland League getting theirs out because of the Sauchie, Bo'ness and Syngenta groundshares.

Ironic Smile

The answer appears to be three times each for the ten team Super League North and South, giving 27 games, and four times for the Premier League North, giving 28 games.

The East Region issued club by club listings; I've made a start on re-compiling them by date:
