Of course if the same team wins both Spring and Fall season they will play against team with 2nd best overall record.

Must admit to being underwhelmed by the new league.

Meanwhile Canadian Championship is on between May and September.
13 clubs contesting the National Cup, home and away games in all rounds playing midweek.
Toronto as holders have a bye to Semi Final stage.

Re: [dottirofhod] Canadian Premier League [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Is is, indeed a strange beast.
A seven team league - so how many games should each team play?

28 sounds like a good number!

Lets split it into two periods, Spring and Fall (with a five day break)

So how many games out of 28 are in each period?
How about 10 in the first, and 18 in the second - sounds logical?

So Canada now has a "Division One" league and two "Division Three" leagues, there is no tier 2 in Canada.

The champions of the new league will enter the CONCACAF League next season, with one of three chosen for the 2019 edition. The Winners of the knock-out Canadian Championship goes into the CONCACAF Champions League. The CONCACAF league is the continent's second tier

There are 13 teams in the Canadian Championship. All seven from the Premier League, three from the MLS and Ottawa Fury (from the USA's second tier USL). The last two are Blainville (Quebec) and Vaughan (Ontario) from the two tier 3 leagues.

The only Canadian team is USL-1 (a USA tier 3) league is Toronto II, but there are five Canadian teams in USL-2

The Pacific Coast league is still running, but I take this is a tier IV league. It includes a team (reserves?) from Victoria Highlanders, which is also has a team at USL-2. There must be a number of other tier IV leagues dotted around the country, and there is a Canadian FA Trophy as a ko competition for these.

The only Canadian League that I have watched a game in, is the Canadian Soccer League, a league that in fact only covers parts of Ontario. This league does not have an official tier within Canada and does not enter teams (AFAIK) into Canadian FA Competitions. I am not clear as to whether or not it is affiliated at all the the Canadian FA

Fat AND Pompous.

Re: [leohoenig] Canadian Premier League [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The CPL kind of shot itself in the foot as they were hanging their hat on Ottawa Fury being the 8th team. This will happen next year as CONCACAF (main man is Canadian) are basically forcing Fury's hand and are stripping them of any sanctions allowing them to play in a USA league. There is also (probably) at least 1 more team joining from Quebec fronted by a high profile ex-Canadian international. There has been a lot of negative feedback from fans over both the structuring of the league and the lopsided schedule.
As for the Canadian Championship, there was also a lot of negativity from fans over the seeding this year and there is a huge push to include at least the USL2 teams to make it fully Canadian, especially including all League1 Ontario and PLSQ (Quebec) teams.
The Canadian Soccer League has no affiliation with the Canada Soccer Association who pulled all sanctions as it was totally corrupt at the time. There were even stories of people behind the goals telling the keeper how many to let in for that particular match. As far as I am aware, they have cleaned themselves up and are co-operating with the RCMP investigation.
Finally, there are structured tier 4 leagues in Manitoba, Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador (alongside Ontario & Quebec who also run lower leagues)
Hope this clears up a few points.
