Bringing in Luke Barlone? JG has had him at Barwell on more than one occasion before moving him on and nice to see "saviour" of the club has now turned doom merchant on chances of survival since departing.

Barlone is crippled, played for us earlier in the season and an embarrassment as every time he got tackled he threw himself to the floor shouting in agony!! Was a good goalscorer at one time and been with Ginnelly at various clubs.

Spent 38 mins standing around doing nothing , apart from when he was on the ground for no apparent reason . Then decided to try and remove one of the Alfreton lads head with his elbow right in front of the away bench . Then had to dragged away as he tried to go for the bench .
All the fans understand the situation . We're playing with a team of lads who are playing above their level , some two or three levels i'd say , but there giving it 100% every game ; In incredibly difficult circumstances . Hence they get applauded off every game whatever the result . Yesterday was no different but i really hope this isn't the type of signing we will be making next season , if we survive that long .

Have to say you had a great set of lads Barlone apart in the circumstances. A performance to be proud of in the dire circumstances.
If I am being honest we were poor and fortunate to take all 3 points although I do feel the force 10 gale was a leveller.

All the best to the Boro. I do hope you still have a club to support

Coventry Live say a consortium is ready to step in to try and help save Nuneaton Borough.

Much to his delight, Jimmy Ginnelly, acting chairman and first team manager, said he hopes that some of the huge bills that have weighed down the troubled club should be paid off this week.

This is largely down to investors coming forward to get behind the momentum he is building at Liberty Way to drag the club out of the more.

Unable to reveal details about the consortium yet, he said the positive talks have advanced and funds are being released to the club.

“We are hoping to pay the HMRC bill this week,” he said.

“This will stop the winding up order. That is a big step forward.

“We are also working with our other football creditors.”

Well it appears they now have the money to pay off the Tax bill and latest word is that the club will be debt free come beginning of next season.

And talk of JG maybe running things from upstairs next season and the club bringing in a new manager. He has done one hell of a job sorting out the mess left by others.

The club were talking about putting tickets on sale early for the final home game of the season against Stockport in anticipation of very large following. No need to bother now. Really glad things have worked out for Boro.

Given MrSmurthwaite’s issues at Port Vale, apparently ending his involvement there financially at least at the end of the season, might he be tempted somewhere he already owns the ground?

I though Mr. Smurthwaite owned the Port Vale ground, albeit through a different company to the Football Club. Allowing him to sell the club and make money by leasing out the ground

How to win friends and influence people. This man is becoming one of the pariahs of the game!! Things don't go his way and he issues threats of all sorts.

There are a couple of bids in for Vale but it is the football side only and he would keep control of the stadium.

Why should Mr Smurthwaite continue to put his funds into bankrolling a club whose fans don't appreciate what he is doing?

He is ensuring club are able to complete the season and has put club up for sale. The ground is also available for sale.

Its not realistic to expect someone the fans continually criticise to bank roll the club. Let those who think they know better.

As for becoming a pariah? He prevented Nuneaton going out of business earlier in season by buying ground and is providing funds to ensure Port Vale can finish the season.

Perhaps he would be less of a pariah if he had let both clubs go out of business mid season

He has 'ulterior motive' written all over him and if he can't take criticism from fans without chucking his toys out of the pram then he is better off away from the game. Nuneaton? Yes he did the club a good turn in purchasing LW and of course there were restrictions on any thing else he could do but too many rumours were circulating to be ignored.

Far too many football fans seem to think they can criticise ( or abuse~) owners without any consequences.

I am sure if I wqas a club owner and took the criticism smurthwaite or other owners have given, I would also stop putting my money into bank rolling a club.

Its the owners club, not the supporters' club. Fans have an emotional interest and attachment to a club but no ownership legally

And here lies the problem. Clubs the size of Vale and Boro are predominantly supported by the local community and outsiders coming in with promises which often turn out to be false and these people then take to the hills when things are said they disagree with. Very few can agree the unfortunate way some of these demonstrations often turn out but they are to a degree understandable as they are done by people who have an emotional and often financial stake in the club and by and large will still be at these clubs long after owners have departed to wreak havoc elsewhere.

I repeat the question as to why the owner of a club should continue to fund it when its fans criticise his actions?

( Not even talking about the violent or abusive demonstrations). Owners at this level fund clubs not expecting a financial return. If they no longer enjoy what they are doing, why should they be expected to continue to fund the club...its a bit like stopping gpoing to the gym...you stop paying your gym membership and use your money elsewhere...

A football club is no different to any other business someone owns. If you no longer want it, you close it down or sell it.

If the fans want to run it, let them buy it off the current owner. all too often, fans want to dictate how someone else's money should be spent

--------------------------

Sell it then. A peaceful protest numbering 300 were involved at a recent demo involving Vale fans against the owner and if he can't handle that then owning a football club is not for him, me thinks he is simply using it as an excuse for his failures within the club. There have been loads around like him that take the applause from fans when things are going well but then turn and blame the same fans when things are going wrong and the finger of blame is being pointed at them.

As for your repeated question regarding why the owner of a club should continue to fund it when fans criticise his actions? It is his lack of them that has caused much of the strife at this particular club.

Surely your statement that “Clubs the size of Vale and Boro are predominantly supported by the local community” cannot true.
If it was, these clubs could pay their own way and not require a single wealthy backer to do so (for whatever reason).
Perhaps the real problem is, in fact, the lack of sufficient support from the local community.
