Championship and League One clubs have voted to agree for the RFL to continue investigating the feasibility of two separate bids for clubs from North America. Ottawa would take over Hemel Stag's registration and New York would be a new club. Both clubs would join on the same terms as Toronto.

Word seems to be Ottawa, well funded by numerous reliable investors, with a decent stadium in the right location, is likely to be a big success.

Pretty much the opposite scenario with New York. Serious doubts, it seems, about whether they'll go the distance.

With North America being stripped of hosting the 2025 World Cup, at least i think that is the case, it would seem that there isn't much appetite for professional Rugby league in the US.

It looks like the New York proposal is gaining speed. The people behind the bid claim to have secured a sponsorship deal with an airline who will transport New York based players to Europe and opponents to New York for free. The backers also claim to be close to finalising a deal with an hotel chain who will provide rooms for team coming to New York.

The NY backers are aiming for US born players, probably with a few UK based players in the mix. NY are also stating that they will be New York based, unlike Toronto, so will play all home games in the city. The backers also mention that New York is in need of a summer contact sport and they see Rugby League as ideal for this, MLS isn't seen as a contact sport which New Yorkers prefer.

Based at Pier 40, Hudson Park River Stadium? 5000 capacity and one hell of an unusual venue but a good place to start such a venture.
