NATIONAL LEAGUE ONE
ROSSLYN PARK 20-14 ESHER
Admission £10 incl programme (12 black & white pages inside 8 page colour shell); Bolognese & Pasta £5 (refused to pay £9.50 for Beef Stew & Mash!). Attendance not given out, guess close to 1,000.
Nice old ground with plenty of character just 5 mins walk from Barnes station. Old wooden main stand next to a small terrace with grass bank on far side, near side has a narrow terrrace running length of pitch with 3 rows of wooden benches pointntless when everyone stands, perhaps there to fulfill a minimum seating requirement if they win promotion to Championship but enough room to put temporary stands over the training areas behind each goal which make viewing difficult a long way back from pitch. Esher led 3 times with kicks, second one a drop goal, only for hosts to level then lead with the first try just before HT 13-9. A penalty try increased the lead early in 2nd half before the visitors finally got over the line 2 mins from time but too little, too late.
