Evostik League Division One East
Spalding United 1 Cleethorpes Town 2
Att: 133 (15 away) Adm: comp (usually 8) Prog: comp (usually 2)

To start with the question that I posed in my report from last weekend - can we keep our nemesis Kieran Wells quiet?! Unfortunately the answer was "no", with the well-travelled and prolific striker netting the equaliser in the 56th minute. However, this was not enough for the Tulips, who lost out to goals from Josh Batty on 36 and a header from Scott Vernon with 10 left to play.

It was certainly not a game for the purist, with plenty of robust challenges on a gluepot pitch. Divided opinion in the bar afterwards about the fairness of the result and Spalding felt they deserved a draw. They had a point, as a pivotal moment was them being denied a clear penalty for handball with the score 0-0.

For my part, I thought Clee edged it, particularly in terms of creativity. Our good run goes on, with a very nice return of 13 points from the last 6 outings. Should be a decent fixture on Boxing Day at home to Lincoln United.

Like the set-up at the Sir Halley Stewart and the chairman / secretary made themselves available for a pre- and post-match chat. Plenty of decent food and drink on offer, with the Christmas raffle in full swing when the Clee contingent headed home. It's certainly a pity that the Tulips do not attract higher attendances. Back at Linden for a quarter past 7 - a good day out to start the festive period.
