Re: [Andy D] Wednesday 24th April 2019 or Reply Privately

East Lancashire League Division 1
Barden Sports Ground
Burnley United 1 Mill Hill 0

KO 7.02 - floodlit for about 2/3 of the game

Crowd 5. No programme or teamsheet. Tea in a mug 1

Hot drinks and food available - strangely 2 serving points - one for football-related people and one for athletics-related people, as there was some sort of athletics training event going on at the same time as the football. The two clubs were running the tea stalls independently of each other.

This was my 1st visit to Barden Sports Ground and it was a 2nd v 1st clash. Mill Hill had already won the league, but were still 100% having won all 22 league games so far.

The pitch is in the middle of the athletics track, which is quite well maintained with a extensive terracing with some seating on the far side. For the 2nd half I climbed to the top of the top of that, which was a great view of the game.

Weather was a bit damp, but luckily avoided any repeat of an earlier mega downpour.

Due to setting off 1 hour later than planned from work in Rochdale, and then having to travel over the hills due to M62 travel problems, I arrived with seconds to spare, and was lucky in that KO didn't happen until 7.02pm

With Mill Hill having a 100% record, they had to be favourites. They played in red, while Burnley United played in what appeared to be Burnley FC shirts.

The only goal of the game came on 44 mins after an even half with half chances, but Burnley got the breakthrough and put away the best chance of the game.

2nd half saw Mill Hill much more dominant, but they couldn't find the magic in front of goal. There was much controversy about multiple offside decisions given against Mill Hill, and also the ref wasted much time forever debating if we were using the right ball or not.

So with Mill Hill chasing at least an equaliser, we ended up playing 8 mins of added time, but they couldn't find the net, and so have now dropped points for the 1st time this season.
