During last weeks Spanish league game between Barcelona and Villareal, the BBC world reporter called Villareal (Valencia) all the way through the report.

Not exactly a mistake but this comment by a typically fawning Radio 5 presenter nearly made me crash the car !

" Nobody can question Sir Alex Ferguson's integrity".

In that case my name must be nobody.

Anyone else in the queue ?

Nobody in the media can question his integrity, because he will probably sue the arse off them!
I'm not in the media however and I have little money, so I can say he's a lying, cheating, cynical bastard.

Classic case of mixed metaphors the other day from Andrew Caddick. I think it was in the Somerset game. He said they had to "...take the bull by the scruff of the neck." Don't fancy that much, Andrew.

Was that at the 20-20 game and they had just opened a new dressing block called the Andy Caddick dressing room. Mike Atherton then called it a Carbunckle.

Another gem from Sky last night after that incredible finish to the Argentina-Peru game. The fourth qualifier will now be decided in Montevideo on Wednesday when Uruguay host the Argies. "Takes us right back to the 1930 World Cup Final" said the Sky sage.................Crazy

Not a presenter as such - just Sky sports in general. I had noticed the fixture in their strapline for the past couple of days and meant to comment then, but the result was there lastnight so...........did anyone go the new team in BSN where Solihull Motors played Blyth Spartans?

One of the espn commentators of the Wolves Arsenal game produced "I think it hit more on the elbow than the arm" I nearly knocked my pint over laughing.

Just heard a classic on Sky Sports News - Swimmer Michael Phelps made his European comeback last night (I've heard this about ten times already today, it just goes on a loop as background noise) and finished only third in his race. The presenter whose turn it is now informs us "he was hindered by the fact he was the only competitor without a swim suit!"*

Happened to me once that at Sheaf Valley baths in primary school! Oh, how the girls laughed!!!

* The story actually was he was the only one not in one of those all-in-one body suits.

3 big cock-ups in 5 mins on BBC Radio 5 last Fri. evening. Whoever the Irish presenter was said the following (damn, can only remember 2 of them!):
Plymouth supporters have the furthest to travel - for a team in the south and east! and, with Daggers 0-5 down at Huddersfield in the Cup, Dagenham and Redbridge had done well to get this far in the Cup!!!

ITV on fine form last night. During the second half, the match commentator mused about The Wardrobe. "Papa Bouba Diop. Who can ever forget when they heard that name for the first time on that sensational night at World Cup 2002 when Ivory Coast beat the holders France in the opening game". Knob.

Foolishly I Sky-plussed the Coventry-Portsmouth tie and watched it delayed by an hour or so. ITV4 obviously don't update their scheduling when programmes over-run as this did with the extra-time. And so my recording ended after 113 minutes of play, though I was quite glad to see the back of it at the time, that's not the point Mad

Actually not a presenter, but the BBC report on the Palace v Wolves FA Cup tie finishes with:

Quote
There was still time for Henry to fire a crisp left-footed consolation into the top corner but, 20 years on from their 1990 FA Cup triumph over Manchester United, the night belonged to Palace.

Can someone point out the mistake?
The only thing to add is 'modern times' to the league and cup double.

Or is Tivvy-Al a Gunner

What was the score by the way/

Preston have never played in the Premier League so they can't possibly have been the first EPL team to win the league and cup double Wink

And I am neither a Gunner or a Prestonian. Nor a supporter of any other side that has won the double. Just full time Tiverton Town and part time Oxford United.

Incidentally, the game finished 0-0, a real thriller it wasn't.

The obvious mistake is EPL, presumably supposed to stand for English Premier League, when it is in fact the Barclay's Premier League or without sponsorship the FA Premier League.
Trust the yanks to change the name to suit themselves, we use their terminology for sports competitions ie NFL ,NBA and World Series, so they should use ours.
