Newport Isle Of Wight v Newport County/AFC took place for two or three season in both the Southern League Southern and Premier divisions in the late 1990s.

Someone mentioned a team called Troon, in one of the minor West country leagues, in the 'were have you been' thread recently.
I know there's also a Troon team, in the Scottish town, more famous for golf.

I read match reports of the Celtic derby last weekend....Farsley v Stalybridge. The Tameside Advertiser (I think) referred to Stalybridge continually as Celtic, which was most confusing in reading it.

31/8 also saw the Dynamo derby - Loughborough v Shepshed (Dynamo won 3-2, but you'll have to look it up to see who!Wink)

That's also a genuine local derby as well - Shepshed's ground is about 5 miles from Loughborough railway station!

Wellington V Wellington

... I think I dug this one up again on an FA Vase thread a week or two back -
as in "chances of a pair of...." etc meeting at Wembley this season.

Wasn't that funny the first time round! Tongue

TheFA.com also seems a bit confused by the presence of two Wellington's in the 3rd Round and I think (perhaps mistakenly) is calling the one in Somerset: 'Town'.

Certainly the Western League's 'version' of the club is usually listed as just plain 'Wellington' though the 2009 copy of the NL Directory also refers to them as 'Town' in its club listing but not in the tables/index - so the idea has come from somewhere.

In fact searching the 'Grassroots' section - for 'Wellington' gives possibly as many as 16 relatively senior versions playing under that name in different towns/areas - so it could be feasible to have a National Wellington KO Trophy for all such named clubs? Crazy
They could call it the 'Golden Wellie' Wink

It's even more confusing than that - Wellington (of Somerset) - the first team in the Western League is called Wellington, while the reserve team (in the Devon & Exeter League) is named Wellington Town.
