Al Stewart - Swiss Cottage Manoeuvres -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiGGRnfwMoA

On a Christmas cake day one Friday in August
In a bookshop in Charing Cross Road
I first set eyes on a girl and at once I did know
She had eyes like a poet and hair like a rainbow
Reflecting the lights that did glow
And the sadness she kept in her eyes
Struck my senses a blow

A more fitting tribute to the late Greg Lake than that effable Xmas single - a stonking live version of the King Crimson classic "In the Court of the Crimson King" with John Wetton covering his vocals and terrific work from ex-Crimson man Ian McDonald in the esteemed company of Chester Thompson, Julian Colbeck not to mention Steve Hackett. Pretty close to the original in my view........thoughts, old farts ?

This old fart thinks that without Fripp it can't be King Crimson.

Just popped into the room as the missus said the football bit was on SPOTY and in the background this was playing. Every now and again, Stereophonics surprise me by producing a gem of a song - I thought "Devil" was one such song. Good vid as well......

Just snapped up two tickets for the up-and-coming rock ensemble Richie Blackmore's Rainbow next June in Birmingham
One of Purple's more recent offerings - "Perfect Strangers" - which I'm hoping will be included in the promised set of Purple/Rainbow classics

Yeah, I know. Still "recent" to an old fart like me though.
Speaking of old farts, just also bought tickets to Tubes/Mission/Alice Cooper gig in Birmingham as well. Hope the missus hasn't got them me for Xmas or birthday present though I have a hunch she may have acquired Radiohead tickets........here's hoping Wink

Heard this over the weekend and had forgotten just what a beautifully crafted song it was (the video is a bit naff unfortunately)

Edit : a couple of "suggestions" popped up while I was browsing youtube which turned out to be well worth a look - firstly a virtuoso vocal performance by Ann Wilson as Heart cover "Kashmir" followed by a simply stunning performance by renowned country singer Gretchen Wilson with Alice in Chains covering Heart's "Barracuda". Awesome.....

Forty years ago today, on Friday 4th February 1977, the Fleetwood Mac album 'Rumours' was released, and has gone on to sell well over 40 million copies worldwide since. However, the single...

Not such a good week for founding Fleetwood Mac member Peter Green, the guitarist who left the band in 1970. This week forty years ago, armed police surrounded his house after Green had pulled a gun on the poor lad posting a much needed royalties cheque through his letter-box.

Yes indeed. Also a fine film with Al Pacino in the title role. Film and telly series both based on a true story - biography of Serpico by Peter Maas.

Re: [Tim] Musical Snapshot [In reply to] Can't Post or

I can remember what I was doing 40 years ago. I was at school and my main interests were fancy girls in the year above mostly named Denise. Trying to get into nightclubs to listen to soul and disco music and chat up girls, and watching football of course.

I had an horrendous thought the other day. When I was a teenager I used to go to two Disco's Fingels and Raffles but soul places but a few miles out town. They were both very near to were the Prime Minster went to school, she's a few years older than me but one disco had a girl a few years older than me who always wore brown leather trousers. In those days they were not that common.

Real Boogie Nights in those days.

Forty years ago today, on Monday 7th February 1977, the youth magazine 'International Times' famously declared "PUNK IS DEAD!" in their only remembered journalist statement. They weren't the only ones - after the major record company CBS Records signed The Clash on 25th January, Mark Perry wrote in the fanzine 'Sniffin' Glue' that: "Punk died the day The Clash signed for CBS."

Also about this time forty years ago, sometime in the first week of February 1977, Howard Devoto - co-founder of Buzzcocks - quit the band, not long after their first release the EP 'Spiral Scratch' had come out on 29th January. He claimed boredom and disillusionment with the punk movement, telling the NME that: "I just don't like movements." He later went on the form the band Magazine.

From 'Spiral Scratch'...
