As I'm in michievous mode today, I'll say it. The Fall have always seemed beyond criticism to me - if you didn't "get it", that was you, not them. Emperors New Clothes I say. Overrated tosh.

Waits for animated response............

Unanimated response from me - I always thought they were crap.

I'm listening to Miles Davis at the moment - live CD from Montreal in 1982. Pretty good. Rather be watching some football though.

Been listening to a lot of the Peel Sessions 6 CD box set lately. Marvellous.

Ah well, each to their own.

Re: The Fall. It doesn't bother me what other people think. I like the noise they make and that's all that matters. I expect I have the same distaste for Miles Davis as you have for The Fall and that's fine by me. As I said, each to their own. Smile

Indeed, each to their own. I'm perhaps being a little unfair - I did like Live At The Witch Trials at the time, but couldn't get into anything else.

Re: [buncranaboy.] Musical Snapshot [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I'd never made it this far down the forum menu so was excited to find threads about interests other than footie. Some folks on here with seriously good ears too, in particular the Fall fanatics and the fella who rates John Darnielle and his Mountains Goats so highly - I couldn't agree more and find myself pulled back to his plethora of albums often, especially the raw Coroners Gambit and the lovely Get Lonely from a few years back.

Spending so much dough of footie and vinyl, I don't get to many gigs these days but was lucky enough to see Emeralds at The Camp in London in October...awesome sound, somewhere between drone and synth, and so loud. Mark McGuire's guitar playing was exquisite. Also saw Gonjasufi, Oneohtrix Point Never and Mulatu Astatke this year as well as going to Latitude which wasn't as good as previous years but still one of the best festivals alongside the Green Man.

I recently put up my 2010 top 10 albums on Norman Records of Leeds website where I grab most of my vinyl so for anyone interested, here it is:

1. Demdike Stare 'Liberation Through Hearing' (Modern Love)
2. Gil Scott Heron 'I'm New Here' (XL) 3. ooOoO 'ooOoO' EP (Tri Angle) 4. Gonjasufi 'A Sufi & A Killer' (Warp) 5. Umberto 'Prophecy Of the Black Widow' (Not Not Fun) 6. Joanna Newsom 'Have One On Me' (Drag City) 7. Matrix Metals 'Flamingo Breeze' (Olde English Spelling Bee) 8. Shangaan Electro (Honest Jon's) 9. Cold Waves & Minimal Electronics Vol. One (Angular) 10. Emeralds 'Does It Look Like I'm Here' (Editions Mego)

Anyone else for top 10's??

At this precise moment I am writing this and listening to Roxy Music's debut album...give me those first two records over any of the Avalon style shite they did later on

I'm in a stupid/daft mood.
Whats new i hear you ask.
Up all night trying to write pieces for programme.
So now in a Non-drug taking high.

A 9 minute vid.
Put up with the hissing for first 20 seconds.
First song at around 2mins.
The Fugs - Crystal Liason
They don't write them like this anymore.
"In the great bowling alley of your mind.
I am your Pinboy,i am your pinboy".
And thats what i call dancing.
Puts 'Bez' to shame.
Then 6 minutes in.
The Fugs - I couldn't get high.
Punk Psychodelic Hippy Geniuses.
I think or my fugged up mind is playing tricks.

Another Kevin Coyne.
I knew he use to be in a band called Siren in his early days
but never heard any of their songs till now.
Kevin Coyne was very underrated as a solo artist.
And Siren was even more obscure.
So i thought it can't be up to much.
Well this one's bloody good.

I'm back.
Thank G*d its Wednesday.
Nought on tele.
No match to go to,though i was tempted with the afternoon
game at Siestafield in Derbyshi*e Cup.
Finally finished Programme write ups for the visit of the 15 Kirkby
rejects coming this Saturday.
Nowhere to go,enough food,Tea and fags for the day.
So i've been Youtubing sounds.Haven't even heard or seen any
news today. Martians could have landed for all i care.
New Single from a band all its members originally from Beeston,
Nottingham. Now just the Lead singer (The Barrie) left, though he
doesn't live in Notts now, well who would if they can get money to
live somewhere else.

Barrie Cadogan (i think thats his name), is now second gitarist in Prmal Scream and has been for the last two albums after Throb was kicked out (no one sems to know why). Saw Little Barrie a fair few years ago on the first and second album tours, good guitarist, but alas he is fully aware of it so there are far too many wank guitar sol's going on than there needs to be. The band are fairly derivative of just about any r and b band from the sixties. Nowt special in my opinion

Staff Benda Bilili - Auramandole

I've mentioned these before, particularly Roger Landu.
I actually said then that his name was Roger Landu Satonge.
But Satonge is the name of the instrument he plays.
And what a sound he makes from it.
I know its electrified..but still..A tin can and a piece of wire.
