see mr martin is stopping selling more drinks from EU countries, including brandy. I think the blokes been auckward. French Brandy will be replaced by american and australian brandy. The French do Brandy best (never knew other countries did it until today) and the germans do wheat beer best which he is also going to stop selling.

Still no word on when he is stopping the sale of Guinness, Hop House 13 and Magners ?

As John Smiths is owned by a Dutch company, I assume that will be taken off as well before Brexit Day.

Apparently there are nineteen Wetherspoon pubs within London's Zone-1, and this article...

https://www.standard.co.uk/...prices-a3936136.html

...claims to rank them in order of quality. In ascending order, they are:

19. The Moon Under Water - 28 Leicester Square, Soho

18. The Montagu Pyke - 105-107 Charing Cross Road, Soho

17. Wetherspoons - Victoria railway station

16. The Rockingham Arms - 119 Newington Causeway, Elephant & Castle

15. The Angel - 3-5 Islington High Street, Islington

14. The Sir John Oldfield - 29-35 Farringdon Road, Farringdon

13. The Willow Walk - 25 Wilton Road, Victoria

12. The Masque Haunt - 168-172 Old Street, Shoreditch

11. Goodman's Field - 87-91 Mansell Street, Algate

10. Metropolitan Bar - 7 Station Approach, Marylebone

9. The Sir John Hawkshaw - Cannon Street railway station

8. Penderel's Oak - 283-288 High Holborn, Holborn

7. The Pommeler's Rest - 196-198 Tower Bridge Road

6. The Lord Moon Of The Mall - 16-18 Whitehall, Westminster

5. The Liberty Bounds - 15 Trinity Square, Tower Hill

4. Shakespeare's Head - 64-68 Kingsway, Holborn

3. Hamilton Hall - Liverpool Street railway station

2. The Knight's Templar - 95 Chancery Lane

1. The Crosse Keys - 9 Gracechurch Street, Bank

Anyone been to any of these and agree with the ranking?

=====================================Agree the Crosse Keys is excellent. Stunning interior and larger than average selection of ales.
Considering how busy HH normally is, I think the staff in there were the most efficient of any'spoons I have been in. My pre train watering hole for many years and a fave haunt of Coupwotcoup for 'totty watching'.
Shakespeares' Head. The others must be poor if this isn't number 18.
The Masque Haunt. The worst 'spoons I have ever been in.

I don't need Google. I have a Hoddy.

Disappointing to hear seeing as they made such a big thing about it with regards to size and the "terrace". Still must be a better bet price wise to The Betjamin so still kind of looking forward to having a beer next time I hit the capital.

I was in Hamilton Hall last evening...rammed to the rafters as per.

With the Harold shut until further notice, next week's Monday club
meet is in the Dairyman(?), a Wetherspoons in Brentwood high street.

I'll soon knock that out of their system Cool

Makes good business sense to shut a really popular pub and not give an indication of when it is to reopen!! Unless of course they have been stripped of licence?Sly

I went away and the governor has been charged with manslaughter Shocked

Boozer now shut until further notice after other 'faults' were found...

CAPTAIN RIDLEY'S SHOOTING PARTY, Bletchley

Visited on Saturday on returning from Buckingham.

An excellent establishment, including many features relating to Enigma and Bletchley Park.
A delicious pint of Daleside Morocco Ale, and some food perfectly cooked to the second Tongue

Definitely one to return to.

Another incident involving a child yesterday in one of the St Helens outlets involving a discarded needle. No shutting of boozer or manslaughter charges and the kid has been offered a nifty for his trouble (which will last several months awaiting test results)

Looks like the HH could have a rival in the near future with Fullers having applied to open up opposite where Ponti's used to be. Another Parcel Yard if it all comes off, becoming a very popular name around here is that one.

If we are talking the same Ponti's, it used to be a 24-hour gaff run by a couple
of Portuguese geezers...Mario and ???? across the other side of Bishopsgate.

With all the present competition in the locale, can't see anything new taking
away trade from a place that's got a prime spot with so much foot-fall too.

What's Parcel Yard when it's at home?

I was going to say its becoming a popular pub name 'oop north' but we are hardly in that category in Leics! Besides there is a Fullers pub at Kings Cross station with the same name.

Been out on bail since the incident as far as I'm aware.

He's 72 by the way.

Not really been out since I got home from Spain, couple
of Sunday sessions in Brentwood and that's it really - had
the odd text to keep me on the edge of the loop but, as I
said, will find out in depth tomorrow.

Will be hitting a 'proper' pub this Sunday in Herongate -
choice of three but all very pleasant from memory.

It's 44 years since I last went to Herongate (EOL?) for a
game when I was still playing on a Saturday.

Unsure

Getting back on topic, had a few texts tempting me to the
Dairyman [JDW] in Brentwood for next week's Monday Club.

Still thinking about it at the moment.
