I think self service checkouts are brilliant and I avoid supermarkets that don't have them............gone are the days of getting stuck behind somebody doing their monthly shop whilst I just want to pay for a few bits

At my local one they're virtually static with people doing their monthly shop and almost every customer appears to need assistance. My "few bits" purchases are carried out at Patel & Sons a few doors down

1/ Fly tipers. I guess the sort of people who do this have no respect for themselves let alone the countryside or people who want to enjoy it, grrr.

2/ Throwing rubbish out of car window/s, as above, lowlife.

3/ Football reporters who refer to a league game as a 'tie'. Errr, no, a Cup tie, but a league match as a tie, that is just wrong.

4/ Children. Well, not specifically children, although I honestly don't like them, but more so 'modern parents', who seem incapable of keeping them under control in public places. No discipline, no raised words, just let them run amok, and let others have to suffer their offsprings noise etc.
Just this weekend, a 5/6 year old, in a chip shop with his dad. Loud, rude, etc, but nothing from the dad apart from a grin, like, let's just let my little precious jonny do what the hell he likes, grrr.

I very much agree with all of those. On point 4 I was in a supermarket just last week, a woman with a posh voice calls "come along Jessica" to her offspring. After being ignored at least three times she physically pulls the girl away from the comic she was looking at. The girl actually looked quite angelic until she shouted to her mother "you get on my f***ing nerves sometimes"...........stunned silence in the shop and looks of horror from all around and a red faced mother who couldn't get out of the shop quick enough. The girl couldn't have been more than 8 years oldShocked

I'd also add football reporters who refer to Nottingham Forest as 'Notts Forest'............it irratates the hell out of me so I can only imagine how the clubs fans must feel

Re: [Isaac] Random & Pointless Things That Really Annoy You [In reply to] Can't Post or

In my local Sainsbury's you can only take baskets into the self scan area, it's only a year or so old and has barriers to stop trolleys getting in. I shop at 8am so have no problem with any backlog / queues. One problem I do find is you can't scan more than one or two vouchers in the self service area so if you wish to use more you have to take your receipt and vouchers to the counter that sells cigarettes to get them added on. Then they can only do the ones for extra Nectar Points and not money off ones, so if you have three money off ones you are more or less up the creak when it comes to self service.

One problem of shopping at that time is you get all the kids on there way to school blocking everything up by aimlessly wandering around doing nothing and getting in the way, but on the bonus side some of today's "Yuf" don't like coins under the value of 10p and tend to throw their shrapnel on the floor when they get it in their change.

I was behind some Yummy Mummy and her son in Home Base yesterday they were buying some paint tester pots, I had 50 small slabs for a path I'm building and a few bags of gravel on my trolley. After paying for the pots Mummy decided "Tristan" would like to carry them to the car, but Tristan was a bit slow on the up take I had to wait a minute or two for Mummy to hand the pots one by one to the little brat. I was tempted to let my trolley roll forward or tell her to kick her son up the backside before I did it to her. Then when leaving the car park I got behind the bloke driving with a hat on who had to have a gap of at least 400 yards in the traffic before attempting to access the main road, and it's amazing why people who wear hats in cars never buy a model that has indicators fitted.

It's amazing how many 5 pence coins you see lying around and this is probably because they are so small, rather than because people don't want them.

People who pay scant attention to personal cleanliness.

I've just read a post by Buncranaboy where he says he wouldn't forego 2 nights sleep and a morning shower for the sake of a football match. Quite right too! In my view there are few things more unpleasant than being within smelling distance of someone who smells of BO. Unless the person has a medical issue there's absolutely no excuse for it. It's pure laziness and is an imposition on those that have to put up with the smell.

That's a tricky one to deal with - I had to take someone to task at work as there had been complaints but the bloke himself seemed blissfully unaware. The fact that he wore the same clothes for weeks on end, come rain or shine, didn't help and he seemed genuinely surprised when I suggested that an occasional change may help. That and the odd application of soap, shampoo and deodorant. Like this.........

Only when they get in the swimming pool with it on. Anyway, you're suppose to have a quick rinse before you get in the pool but many don't bother. Unsure

I am someone who pays huge attention to be my personal cleanliness, nearly to the point of obsession! An example being, if I have on the morning on day 1, the absolute latest I'd leave it is the evening of day 2, regardless of what I am up to. People who have B.O or stick deodorant onto of existing deodorant and not showering, it really really p!sses me off. I would definitely forego two nights sleep, but unless I'm lounging round the house in a pair of shorts/t-shirt for days on end, I clean everyday. Get extremely paranoid if I don't BlushUnsure

So yes, this is something I find really annoying but don't think its random or pointless Cool

Driving around this time of year you pass plenty of home-made signs advertising summer fetes, car boots, well dressings etc etc. Where brain cells have been engaged there'll usually be a run of around three signs spaced out and giving you small chunks of information which together tell you what sort of event is taking place, where, what date and time etc

Alternatively, you get just one small sign which you glimpse for a moment and are then past with no chance to work out what is taking place and when and where.

It's incredibly frustrating when trying to read these things that suddenly they...

'SCHOOL PROM/S'

Whilst driving to work today and listening to the radio (BBC Berks), someone rang in to say their son was attending his end of year school 'prom'.
Sadly this is another step towards our wonderful little island because another US state!! Grrr.

In my youth late 60s/70s, I left school in 79', there was no such thing. Yes, some schools might have had an end of year school dance, or regular youth disco might have happened at the local hall etc, but a 'school prom' did not exist.

Thankfully I don't have children, if I did I'd be starting a petition amongst other parents to change this to end of year school dance instead.

This is another worrying trend. I always take to task those in the office who use the term 'more bang for the buck', errrr, excuse me, when did we start using the buck/dollar as OUR currency.

Grrrr, Americanism, it MUST STOP. Rant over.

And And...... youngsters, usually those 35 and under, who say, in restuarants/bars, "Can I get .......", Errr, no you can't, you are not getting it, it's "Can I have......."

Americanism, Grrrrr.

Arriving at Paddington, not arriving into please (one of the train companies gets it right, one doesn't) - among many other manglings of the English language on public transport. There's a sign on Radley Station about turbulance, too...

Not random and pointless but just bloody dangerous: motorcyclists' way to overtake in a line of traffic, ie right behind a car, overtake, brake etc. I know one (friend of colleague) who died like that when the car in front just slammed on the brakes to turn right. Makes me furious every time.

Used to hate that on GNER when I had to go to York for work. Also the incorrect use of "myself" when "I" or "me" is correct. The conductor (while I'm at it I'm not sure I like that word either when it comes to describing a railway worker) would tell us not to hesitate to ask "if myself or my staff can help". If he had no staff would he say "if myself can help"?

Those "Think Bike" illuminated warnings annoy me. It's about time we had warnings saying something like, "Bikers, think about the drivers blind spot" on account of the fact they'll sit in it for ages then suddenly overtake then pull in at a distance so short they're virtually sitting on your bonnet! Mad

Yes, there seems to be no end of reporting about how dangerous London's roads are when someone gets knocked off a bike, yet if you see them day in, day out, like I do it's a wonder more of them don't get killed (not least because I wish it, whenever they sail through a red light...).

I find the way to relax when a cyclist or (more rarely) a motor cyclist does something really, really annoying is to repeat the words "organ donor" to yourself a few times.

Wishing somebody dead because they went though a red light sounds a bit extreme to say the least, fortunately most of us can take a more rational view.

Having driven and cycled through Central London many times I would like to to think I can see both sides of the argument. It all comes down to the person, somebody who has been driving perfectly for donkeys years doesn't suddenly turn into a demented moron when they get on a pushbike, there are good and bad drivers and there are good and bad cyclists.

There was a programme on TV recently where a cabbie and a cyclist swapped places for the day and both learned a lot from the experience, maybe a few more people should try it?

I'm proud to have passed my Advanced Motorist's exam and seem to be the only person in western civilisation who indicates when overtaking bikes - but living in Oxford did give me a slightly irrational hatred of them.

A few years back, 3 of us cycled from my flat to Sittingbourne over 2 days to raise money for Maidstone's new ground - probably got about enough for the ex-chairman to pay for a handful of solicitor's letters. We even got a mention in ForFor Two - Ronaldo on the cover, me on p148!

Dressed in my hi-vis top (with Maidstone badge...), like the others I managed the whole journey without any incidents whatsoever. I'd never cycle di nLondon before but at junctions my strategy was just to unambiguously get in the middle of a lane so I had to be treated like a car, not edged past. Didn't get me any hoots / gestures and if I see a cyclist doing the same I always think fair do's. The ones who weave in and out of traffic are asking for problems.

Fair % of motorcyclists are clearly excellent road-users but there's a camp who seem to think it's all one big video game.

It's "Colombia" not "Columbia". Why does nobody on the TV get that right?
