I hate misson statements in the work place

Especialy so when they are great big posters with diagrams and flow charts. No one cares about them and in most cases no one has the faintest idea of what they are on about and thats if they have even taken notice of them in the first place.

Michael Vaughan who, in his semi-literate rampage across the media, is single-handedly taking apart the English language in the way he once took apart the Australian bowling. 'Posh' part of the pitch, my a**e.

I'll take it back after he took apart the England team this evening! The only thing he didn't say on TMS was "I don't know what's going off out there" (if FT had been watching this he'd have left in an ambulance). MV was bordering on the apoplectic as Cook put his fielders on the boundary with India 9 down.

In the post-match summary Sir Geoffrey gave Cook the captain the send-off.

Has anyone else noticed the recent trend for people, some of them in professional capacities, to use the word 'so' to start a sentence?

For example, Q: "How did you solve the problem?"

A: So what we did was.....

Listening to the Labour party leaders "debate" on Radio 5 this morning the point was made that all four candidates started answers with the word "Look ....", a Blairism.

People using the verb 'to get' at fast food outlets, as in 'Can I get a Big Mac?'. The person serving is the one that 'gets' the food, not the person requesting it.
Needless to say, the word 'please' is never used in conjunction with 'Can I get?'.

My wife says this and I always give her a hard time about it. To her credit, she accepts what I say and actually tries to remember to say "Can I have". I'm frequently amazed she doesn't smack me in the mouth on a regular basis.

I agree - Soccerway is terrible for that. I don't mind this site as it's not covered in ads, but on Soccerway - which otherwise is a very useful site - the page will be appear to have loaded, so I click a team name, only to find it then shunts down an inch meaning I've clicked an ad.

Yeah, this one really annoys me. Again, I suspect this has come out of NA. Especially if the person is asked a number of questions, and they begin every answer with, SO..... etc, which I've heard whilst listening to BBC Berks, driving to work in the mornings.Grrrr!!

BBC Berkshire actually makes BBC Oxford sound quite good, scraping, bottom and barrel come to mind in Radio listen terms. The Today programme on Radio 4 is advisable listening at that time of the morning.

Re BBC Berks, Andrew Peach in the mornings is excellent. Very good at interviewing, never gives those in authority an easy ride! Though he is rather obsessed with X Factor, which I cannot abide, and talks about his children too much.
But he is a very good broadcaster.
But the fella in the evening drive time from 4 is hopeless, like a Radio Cheese Hospital DJ, Kennedy, he get's to interview celebs and is the biggest sycophant you could not wish to hear! Laughs at everything they say, and hangs on every word, nauseating, and always their biggest fan! That's when Radio 5 Live gets turned on!
Still Kennedy did play 'Glad All Over' once, the Palace song, actually my friend Roger Day was at the time doing his 7pm Southern Counties Radio show after Kennedy, and I txted Roger and asked he play Glad All Over as his first number as Palace were playing at Manyoo in the LC Q-F that evening, Roger being a Manyoo fan, and I had a funny feeling that Palace would win the tie, and they did!
For some reason he had Kennedy play it just before 7pm, thankfully I heard it as I'd tuned in early. I used to play squash with Roger when I lived in Maidstone, very nice fella, watches Maidstone United now. I believe he still broadcasts one show a week, maybe Sun evening? 60/70s music, his era.

So, following on from my post above.
Another thing that really annoys me.
Is drive time radio shows, the music they play. it seems on BBC Radio Berks, they have maybe 2/300 sanctioned tracks, and play them ad nauseum week after week.
Nothing interesting, all MOR stuff, dull dull dull.

Think they poached Peach from Radio Oxenford, though some of these local DJ's work for more than one Radio Station certainly Malcolm Boyden on Radio Oxford also works for Coventry & Warwick and maybe Hereford & Worcester and certainly WM in the past.

I don't want to see a picture of your fry-up - I know what they look like ffs.

This seems to be a northern/Scottish thing, but it makes me cringe when commentators/analysts say, "He's went to shoot". What does that even mean? He went to shoot, yes. He's gone to shoot, yes. He's went to shoot, no! The more gifted grammarians on here can explain why.

It's very west of Scotland. The past participle of the verb "to go".As the kids say at school: "Haw sir, the bell has went."

You watch BBC news, then when they say, "Now with the sport...", you press the mute button. Then the local news comes on, and after the usual guff they say, "Now with the sport..." and you press the mute button.

Match of the Day or Match of the Day 2 are following the news so my argument is this. If you are a football fan and want to know the scores wouldn't you watch the football following the news? In which case why do they give out the scores?

And no, as I found out this evening by Anglia News letting the cat out of the bag, they don't always say, "If you don't want to know thw score, look away now." Mad
