It annoys me when my friends get a job after being on the dole, and when I ask how they got a job they just say "well you know, that's the way it is"

...and they all say that? You got some weird mates.

Come to think of it, I don't know anyone on the dole.

Sliced bread from bakers...if you're lucky then there's a choice of sizes but
one is normally so thin that you could type a letter on it - ask your mum if
you're under 30 - and the other, well not even Hoddy could get his lips around it.

I find "well I was going to be put on a mandatory work placement otherwise" far more common!

Even worse on BT's CL highlights programmes which open with Gary Lineker telling you that it's "Joy for Man City" or "More misery for Chelsea" thus spoiling the following hour when I'd like to see that misery develop for myself.

It's getting to the point where we'll have to keep the TV on mute until they start showing the action!

On that theme, I regularly mute the TV when the adverts come on, especially at this time of year when it's wall to wall mushy shite trying to flog you crap that the people you buy presents for neither want nor need.

I may only be watching a dozen games this season but every bastard one of them on a 7-45 kick off is at least seven or eight minutes late. By the time they have fannied about with their self important 50 minute pre match training schedule and the officials line them all up etc it should be well under way.
And what is this utter bullshit now where once they have shaken hands one of the coaches puts down half a dozen tee things and they have have another little round of sprints before the kick off.
Complete self indulgent bolix

They've seen it on the tellybox, so it must be the thing to do. While we're on the subject, here's a brief list of football related things that get my goat.....

1. Goals on wheels
2. Linesmen acting like performing seals, running backwards from the pre-match handshake in formation. What's that all about?
3. Teams starting with players wearing numbers 12 and upwards while numbers 2 and 7 sit on the bench at Step 7 and below.
4. The pre-match handshake
5. European fixtures being referred to as "matchday 5" or whatever.
6. The assumption that 3G is the future for football. It might get games on but it's going to kill football as a spectator sport at lower levels.

Totally pointless, but grrrrrrrr........

Funny how Maidstone United - the only team in their division, I think, who play on 3G - are getting crowds of over 2,000 for home games.

In a job interview, I hate it when people say they have kids. It doesn't affect the job description.
Actually it is quite offensive to anyone who has no kids for any reason, i.e. health or sexuality or otherwise.

My wife and I have not been able to have kids, but I wouldn't be offended by it. It can be sensitive subject, and I feel that people who are luckily enough to have them do not understand what couples go through.

Back to the point - I do agree it probably has no relevance in the interview.

We obviously have different understandings of the term "lower levels". I'm referring to clubs at Step 7 and below where leisure centre cages with no spectator facilities are becoming more and more popular.

Sutton United are 3 or 4G in the same division.

"Weather" plastic pitches are a good thing or not at lower levels it's all down to hard cash. Councils build a few cages then sell off all the grass pitches for redevelopment and make a few million in the process. Smaller teams then have to have staggered kick-offs. Looking at the Traveller the Taunton League seems to moving that way.

In all the Job Interview Panels I've either sat on or been in front of over the years the question of children has never arisen.

When on an Interview Panel, we have an agreed set of job related questions that are put to each candidate in turn. Each answer is scored and the job goes to the candidate with the highest total score. A rep from HR sits on the panel to monitor it all. If we raised any questions on non work personal matters such as whether someone has/or doesn't have children the HR rep would land on us like a ton of bricks.

And who the hell cares whether or not a candidate has kids anyway?!

I suppose some people might think that somebody with a wife and kids might be a bit more responsible than a single bloke but other than that I can't see how it is in any way relevant.

It might matter to you but unless you are planning to ask the same question of male candidates, and act on the answer you receive in the same way, you can't ask it all because it would be discrimination on the grounds of sex.
