What is the significance of step 7 7A 7B ?

They're all the same level and able to promote to step 6 so I don't know why the FA are sub-dividing it.

If I remember correctly the reason for sub-dividing it is that the different sub-divisions qualify for different amounts of funding. If a league matches the FA's idea of an ideal Step 7 league it gets more funding than one at 7A or 7B.

Think they will use the "North West Counties" method. If there is a space at step 6 and there is no one to fill it from step 7, anyone can fill it. So Sussex Three clubs can still go up if they have the ground grading.

If the Sussex D3 is no longer Step 7, does that mean that Sussex D1 and D2 are no longer considered Steps 5/6? In which case D1 will no longer promote to the Isthmian? Otherwise promotion and relegation between D2 and D3 will be a two step jump.

Only Division Three has losts its status - D1 and D2 still at Step 5 and 6 respectively!

Yes but if there is automatic promotion and relegation between Division Two and Division Three in the same League then that makes no sense. Or is it not automatic any longer?

I hate this time of year..... it gets so confusing Crazy

Don't think there is now, clubs have to have the ground grading to go up, and as step 6 is running short of teams not many make the reverse journey these days.

The way I look at it is that Sussex Three is still level 11, it's just not step 7 at the moment. The step numbers are just an FA classification, the level numbers are what really matter imho.
There's no such thing as step 8, step 9 etc. although we all use those terms on here for convenience. We should really call them level 12, level 13 and so on.

They're all the same level and able to promote to step 6 so I don't know why the FA are sub-dividing it.
The criteria may have changed slightly but this is what it was when it started:

"With regard to the membership within each level, the following will apply:

Step 7 – Minimum of 16 clubs
Step 7A – Minimum of 14 Clubs
Step 7B – Minimum of 12 Clubs

In order for a league to qualify to be placed at each level the following minimum % of clubs MUST comply fully with the new Grade I.

Step 7 – Minimum 75% achieving Grade I
Step 7A – Minimum 50% achieving Grade I
Step 7B – Minimum 25% achieving Grade I

At Step 7 there will be a maximum of 25% of member clubs as classified as reserve sides of teams playing at a higher level in the National League System.

There will be no restrictions with regard to the number of reserve teams playing in leagues classified as Step 7A or Step 7B."

Taken from http://www.west-cheshire.org.uk/...article.aspx?id=1652

Has changed since this was printed, there is a restriction on reserve teams

I thought it may have done. I know the grading isn't called Grade 'I' either.

This is from June 2012 found on http://www.pitchero.com/...a-review-602841.html. I hope they haven't changed it again this year!

Step 7 – to be awarded to leagues where 100% of their clubs meet the Step 7 minimum ground grading requirements as at 31 March and the league complies with all other requirements for Step 7 status.

Step 7A – to be awarded to leagues where 75% or more of their clubs meet the Step 7 minimum ground grading requirements as at 31 March and the league complies with all other requirements for Step 7 status.

Step 7B – to be awarded to leagues where 60% or more of their clubs meet the ground grading requirements as at 31 March and the league complies with all other requirements for Step 7 status.

In all cases, there must be a minimum of 14 clubs in membership of a Step 7. Step 7A or Step 7B division with no more than 25% of Membership comprising of reserve teams of clubs competing at a higher level in the National League System.

In future clubs joining a Step 7, Step 7A or Step 7B divisions will be allowed until 31 March in the year following promotion to meet the Step 7 Minimum Grading Requirements or they will be relegated.

The classification awarded to leagues would apply for three years however, it would still be possible for a league to apply annually (by 31 December) for a higher classification if they were of the opinion that they could meet the relevant criteria. It would also still be possible for leagues outside the System to apply on an annual basis (by 31 December) if they were able to meet these requirements.

Presumedly some leagues are very close to this 60% mark as they appear to be "yo-yo" leagues being Step 7 then not, then back to Step 7 again.

How does it work for a club in, say, Lincolnshire if the nearest league loses Step 7 status but they wish to rise in the ranks and there isn't another league to join at that level?

We applied last year, the reserves are the sticking point
Once we get down to 4 reserve teams (who should all comply with MGR) we would only require 5 more teams to comply for 7b, which would be achievable

When we supplied Cleethorpes Town to the pyramid last year and Sleaford Town before that, we had to wait until the step 7 league applicants had been exhausted first.
So although we want to be officially in the pyramid, we can still develop ambitious clubs without turning anyone (reserve) teams away
We are aiming to join the pyramid soon but not by denying teams to play football at county level

I think that's the best way. Clubs in non-step 7 leagues can still apply to step 6 - there are so many gaps at the moment that most will probably get in if they have the facilities.
I know when the Surrey Elite first applied and were turned down it didn't bother them too much. They know they'll probably never get 100% of teams with the grading but one thing going for the league is that it has it's own reserve division and there are other reserve leagues in the area so there isn't the demand from higher clubs to have their ressies playing in the league.

The York Premier League lists the following clubs for the 2013-14 season on their web site:

Fulford FC United
Haxby United - Relegated from Division 1
Heslington

Division 3
Bishop Wilton
Civil Service
Crayke
Huby United
Ouseburn United
Rufforth United
Selby Olympia
Sporting Knavesmire
Stamford Bridge - Relegated from Division 2
Tadcaster Town - Promoted from Division 4

Division 4
Cawood - New
Huntington
Kirbymoorside - New
LNER Builders
Melbourne
Moor Lane
Selby Town Reserves
South Milford - New
Wheldrake
Wistow - New

Four new teams listed all in Division 4. I have no information about them although Cawood have appeared before in the league their last season being 2007/8. Only one team has not reappeared from last season, Elvington Harriers.
The only other snippet I can glean is that Selby RSSC were relegated from the Premier despite finishing twelfth of fifteen. I do not know the reason for this.

Sandhurst reprieved - Bulwell gone to CML but Nottingham United have NOT swapped with them.

Surprisingly West Bridgford have disappeared...to the Central Midlands League? - or have they folded?

Re: [Sarumio] Step 7 2013-14 [In reply to] Can't Post or

Nottingham United's website are saying they have switched leagues, their 1st team will be in the Premier and 2nd XI in division two. Bit of a mystery

"Our Saturday 1st team play in the Senior Division of the Nottinghamshire Senior League and go into the 2013/14 season under new Management and looking to continue the clubs fantastic progress in our 4th season in the football pyramid.

All our matches in the NSL kick off at 3pm and the NSL consists of teams from around the county and is part of the FA National Football League System. Their homepage with fixtures and results can be found by clicking here - Nottinghamshire Senior League Senior Division"

Also they have a thank you on there to the Notts League for leading them some kit for a forthcoming tour

"Big Thanks To Precision Training And The NSL! - We’d like to say a big thank you to Precision Training and the Nottinghamshire Senior League for kindly providing us with kit and equipment for our upcoming Germany Tour in July. This has helped our preparations massively and shows a touch of class from Precision and the NSL, so thank you again from everyone at Nottingham United"

West Bridgford are Tweeting about the new season but the Tweets do not say what league they are in.

Nottingham United's reserves are shown in NSL Div2, but first team not included?

Strange.

Just seen Kimberley MW's live tweets from the AGM show a 17 team Senior League including Nottingham United.

What's also strange is that they (and Sandhurst, AND Selston) are very much in CMFL South territory, but have still made the switch.

And why are they called Nottingham United anyway?
