As I reported in the WDYG thread for March 12th., 2016, I visited Forest Green Rovers Youth recently. The club's Academy fixtures are played at the Royal Agricultural University on the outskirts of Cirencester and there were no problems as far as access to the match was concerned. The public car-park is inside the Stroud Road entrance and you then walk round the University buildings to the pitches on the Tetbury Road side of the complex. The one used when I was there was on the right hand side of the driveway - looking from the top - which cuts through the playing fields from the Tetbury Road entrance. It was the second soccer pitch down below a rugby pitch with a younger age group game also taking place on the third pitch down. It appeared as if the higher pitch might be used in preference, as that one was roped along both sides and the Bridgwater players were strolling around it when I arrived. Corner flags were lying on their side behind one end while on the other two pitches prepared on this side of the driveway, the flags were in place. The middle of the three was the one chosen anyway and this was roped along one side. There are additional pitches beyond the other side of the driveway and an even younger age group game was amongst activities taking place there. Although the club prefers drivers to use the car-park off Stroud Road (which is where SatNav took me), my mobility problems enabled me to park close to the dressing-rooms and I therefore drove round to the Tetbury Road entrance. Both entrances are clearly marked off the two roads concerned. A few spectators headed for the main buildings at half time and came back with hot drinks. There may be a cafe or other refreshments room there or possibly there are vending machines. Various alternative activities were taking place on site, including a meeting of the local bell-ringing association - fortunately minus any sounds of practice sessions! It's a delightful setting with plenty of trees around the extensive grounds. The overlooking University buildings, complete with integrated clock tower, further add to the general "public school" ambience. As is often the case in such venues, there are no real spectator comforts by way of seating or cover, apart from the trees which form an attractive avenue along the driveway. Choose a fine weather day if heading here!

Blackpool U18 (0)2 Bradford City U18 (1) 1 EFL Youth Alliance Cup - Northern Group 5 Saturday 27th August, 2016 Blackpool Under 18's have found themselves a new venue for this season at Myerscough College Sports Centre, St.Michael's Road, Bilsborrow, Lancashire, PR3 0RY. The village of Bilsborrow is on the A6, four miles north of Junction 1 on the M55. As you enter the village from the south, the college is clearly signposted to the left down St.Michael's Road. The main entrance to the college is then 3/4 mile along on the right, on a sharp left hand bend. If you follow the signs to 'Visitor Parking', the sports pitches are then a short walk away through the college. There is an unsigned smaller entrance before the main entrance which takes you straight to the pitches. There is a 3g pitch on the site but Blackpool use one of three grass pitches. In fact I was told that the EFL are not keen on Under 18's playing on 3G, so Blackpool have no plans to use that pitch. There was no problem at all with admission. In fact, the Academy Administrator very kindly confirmed all the match details for me by email. The game itself was thoroughly entertaining. Bradford City just about deserved their half time lead but a dominant second half from Blackpool saw them score twice and hit the woodwork twice for a deserved win. The dressing rooms are a considerable distance from the pitch so potential visitors may be interested to note that half time was a short break on the pitch. Tackling the M6 on a Bank Holiday weekend is always a questionable tactic but fortunately the motorway behaved itself on my way to the match and again afterwards when heading south. By 1.30pm I was parked up at Mossie Park ready for the afternoon's entertainment of Charnock Richard 1 St.Helen's Town 3.

Preston North End U18's (0)1 Port Vale U18's (2)2 EFL Youth Alliance North West Saturday 17th September, 2016 For this season Preston North End are playing their Youth Alliance fixtures at the UcLan Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Preston, PR2 1SG. Given it's location, the simplest way to approach is from Junction 1 of the M55. Taking the A6 towards Preston you immediately turn right on the B6241 and follow the signs. I was aware that pitch 1 of the large UcLan Sports Arena has been used for Morecambe's Youth Alliance fixtures before but on this occasion the game was played on pitch 3 which is towards the western side of the complex. As you enter, follow the service road past numerous grass and 3G pitches and the complex café until you reach car park no.4. You then follow the footpath under the bridge and around to the right past the Western Dressing Rooms to reach pitch 3. There is a pavilion by the touch line to the left of which the pitch is roped off for spectators. There was no problem at all with spectators being admitted. Indeed, as with my recent visit to Blackpool, I found that Preston were very helpful and confirmed all of the match details by email. The complex was extremely busy with numerous hockey and football matches taking place plus a number of cyclists also traversing the site. This means that all of the car parks were either very busy or full with the Under 18 spectators mostly parking on the grass verge of the service road. The game resulted in a slightly undeserved win for Port Vale. Preston did their best to pull back a 0-2 half time deficit but couldn't quite manage it during an engrossing match. My afternoon game was at Prestwich Heys so my journey was predominantly M61 rather than M6. Judging by the visiting Alsager Town players still arriving at 2.15pm, the M6 was once more best avoided!

Went to watch Cardiff City u-23 v Birmingham City u-23 yesterday afternoon at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel in Hensol. Parking right by the pitch and no problems wandering over to watch the game. Stewards giving out teamsheets on arrival. The game ended in a resounding 4-0 win for the visitors and there were a few first teamers on display (Kennedy for Cardiff and Paul Caddis for Brum). Mark Cooper (FGR manger) was in attendance no doubt looking for potential loan signings.

I assume Mark Cooper was watching Paul Caddis. It's been reported that Caddis has been told he can leave Birmingham. Cooper and Caddis were together at Swindon Town. Watch this space. ...

If the game is at the Alan Higgs Centre, there will be no problem. Just park in the car park and walk around the right hand side of the main building to reach the pitches.

Not when I went to watch the development team last week. They played further along on the grass pitch after the 3G. The former Coventry Utd pitch inside the cage had rugby posts up.

After successful visits to both Blackhall Colliery (Hartlepool U18s and worth a visit) and Coventry U18s (alan Higgs centre and not worth a visit) I was thinking of going to Accrington U18s on my way to everton vs Burnley on Easter Saturday. Seems to be mixed reports if there is a game and where it is played. Anyone know anything? Also could I get to Everton for a 3 pm kick off driving after an 11 am Accrington U18s kick off? Cheers

Cheers They're at home to Wigan according to the fixture list http://www.efl.com/....2017549-3672008.pdf Best to contact the club to check the venue but a lot of U18 games are played at the main stadium. I'd expect it to be there as the first team play Friday this week, so the ground will be free on Saturday. Whilst obviously far too late to be of any use to you now, I thought I would post to say I went to watch Accrington Stanley U18s today v Walsall U18s, and the match was played at Nelson FC. Seems the club use Nelson whenever they can, and several games have been played there this season. Of course, you can't get any of this information from the club themselves, but their academy does have an excellent twitter account, which has details/venues/kick off times for all their various age group matches.

Tranmere v Carlisle is now 5/5 and being played at Solar Campus. This was due to played on 28/4. Never enquired about time but original game due for 1pm. I think Solar Campus is not far from Ashville (West Cheshire). Check with TR later in the week to confirm.
