In the first qualifying round I see that both newly formed Ewloe Spartans and Sychdyn have home ties. Ewloe groundshare at Sychdyn so, presumably, one of the fixtures will have to be moved?

Yes, one of them will need a change of time or of venue. I suspect the same will happen with the two ties in Tredegar.

That's what I thought! I notice that the FAW left them in the FA Trophy draw yesterday as well. If they've paid the fees, still got some players and got their insurance cover, is there anything stopping them just playing in cup competitions for a season?

Posters on this site always know more about FAW competitions than the FAW! I'm sure indifferent is correct.

Panteg can't play home games on Saturdays in August because they share with cricket.

Friday result

Panteg 4 Newport YMCA 4 - match abandoned on 90 minutes as failing light meant referee didn't feel the 30 minutes extra time could be completed.

I know they have previously been included in the South not the North Barry FC played them in the FAW Trophy first qualifying round a number of years ago.

Yes, Llandrindod are in the southern section of the Trophy this year, and have another long trip to Cwmbran.

What I don't understand is why, if you need to take a club from mid-Wales to make up numbers in the southern section, the FAW don't look at a map and take the southern-most club - clearly Hay.
Given that Rhydymwyn's withdrawal gave them a 'bye' to play with surely there was a way to transfer the bye to the southern section, leave Llandrindod in the central, and move a club like Llanrhaeadr into the northern section. Lots of travelling saved - it's not rocket science!

Last season both rounds 1 and 2 were regionalised, though only North and South, rather than North, South and Central.
From Round 3 the draw has no regionalisation.

RTB Ebbw Vale v Caldicot Town now being played on Friday evening at 7.30pm according to Caldicot's website, presumably because Ebbw Vale RFC are home to Cardiff on Saturday afternoon at Eugene Cross Park. Rather disappointed that they are not playing the match at their second ground, Hilltop.

Is there much interest in these early-round games?

Yes, obviously here and amongst the committed, but are we talking in terms of handfuls, dozens or hundreds actually at the grounds watching the action?

446 at Barry last Saturday for the second round game. Holyhead v Bangor will probably be the biggest gate in the third round, depending on whether it's chosen for TV coverage. Most games will reach three figures.

From FAW website;

LIVE S4C MATCH SWITCHED TO TNS DUE TO HIGH WINDS IN HOLYHEAD

The FAW, S4C and TV production company Rondo, have mutually decided to switch Saturday’s live televised JD Welsh Cup match from Holyhead to TNS, due to the high winds forecast on Saturday.

“The match between Holyhead Hotspur and Bangor City was picked to be the televised match and would have been the first ever live football match on Anglesey, so it’s disappointing that the elements have defeated us,” said FAW Head of Competitions, Andrew Howard.

“We have monitored the weather forecast all week and with the winds scheduled to be consistently over 40mph on Saturday in Holyhead, regrettably it’s not safe to broadcast the game from the temporary gantry.”

Heavy rain is also forecast throughout the night, so a pitch inspection will be held at the New Stadium at 11:00am on Saturday morning. The kick-off for the match will remain at 17:15. If the match goes ahead, a single camera will still be at the match to take highlights, which will be shown on Clwb on Sunday afternoon,

The live outside broadcast will now take place at TNS’s Park Hall Stadium as the current holders host Aberystwyth Town in a repeat of the 2014 Final. This match will now kick off at 17:15.

The decision was taken on Friday morning in consultation with all four clubs and the FAW and S4C would like to thank all clubs concerned for their cooperation and understanding, which should hopefully ensure that a live match can be broadcast on Saturday.

JD Welsh Cup Round 3
Holyhead Hotspur v Bangor City (17:15)
The New Saints v Aberystwyth (17:15) – Live on S4C.

Re: [gcnc] FAW Welsh Cup 2015-16 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Guilsfield v Airbus called off at very short notice for the second time on Wed 10th, so home advantage now switches to Airbus, in accordance with FAW rules, for the third attempt to play the game. This is likely to be on Tues 16th or Wed 17th. Guilsfield are threatening to pull out according to this article from www.welsh-premier.com

GUILSFIELD manager Danny Barton has hit out at "conspiracy against the club" which could see them withdraw from the Welsh Cup.
The Huws Gray Alliance outfit is to make an official complaint to the FAW after their fourth round clash against Airbus UK Broughton was called off less than an hour before kick-off on Wednesday.
The cancellation followed a similar late postponement for the original conference date the previous Saturday.
However club officials have reacted with anger to the decision by match referee Nick Pratt who made the call at 6.50pm.
The South Wales official ruled the Clos Mytton pitch was unsafe, a view challenged by club officials, who were left to contemplate their future in the competition.
"I played Welsh Premier football for 20 years I have never seen a decision like it," Barton told the County Times.
"The referee turned up less than an hour before kick-off and conducted the pitch inspection in moulded boots before saying the pitch was unsafe for him and the officials.
"We asked him what standard he was measuring the pitch against and he told us Welsh Premier which is ridiculous as it would mean no club outside the Welsh Premier could host games in the Welsh Cup.
"It is all the more ridiculous when you look at some of the pitches in the Welsh Premier which are like bogs at this time of year but still passed fit.
"Anyone who saw our pitch last night will tell you that it was totally playable and players and officials from Airbus agreed.
"It was only the referee who thought otherwise and he could not be reasoned with and I found his attitude very arrogant and defensive. Nobody could understand either his reasoning or rationale for his decision."
As per competition rules the tie will now be switched to Airbus though the Villagers have been further enraged by the suggestion the fourth round tie would be pushed to next midweek rather than the weekend.
"The club already feels cheated, the Welsh Cup is our biggest competition and now we feel we are being told by the Welsh Premier when we have to play a cup tie which is not even under their jurisdiction," seethed Barton.
"The Welsh Cup should be played on a Saturday as it takes precedence but now we are hearing that we will have to travel to Broughton next midweek. It totally devalues the cup.
"After last night the club considered withdrawing from the Welsh Cup then and there and certainly we will be making an official complaint to the FAW.
"We feel there is a conspiracy against Guilsfield Football Club and we want answers from the FAW, more we feel we deserve them."

Why isn't the cup just given to TNS with the rest playing off for another trophy

Not sure fans of Cefn Druids, Aberstwyth Town or Newtown AFC ( last 3 clubs beaten in finals by TNS ) would agree with you on that one as they all had great days out despite getting beaten.

At least, up until last year, the beaten finalist had the consolation of a spot in Europe by virtue of the fact that The New Saints were already in the Champions League. They don't even have that now.

It would be good if the same thing happened this May as last May, i.e. the match is hosted by whoever gets to the final alongside The New Saints.

Semi Final Draw

The New Saints v gap Connahs Quay
Port Talbot Town v Airbus UK

Both matches will be played at Newtown on the afternoon of Sat April 2nd. From FAW website;

The Football Association of Wales is pleased to announce a JD Welsh Cup Semi Final double header with both matches being played at Latham Park Newtown on Saturday, 2 April 2016.

The first match, in a feast of Welsh Cup Football, will be played between Port Talbot Town and Airbus UK with a 1pm kick-off. The second match for fans to enjoy will be between holders TNS and gap Connah’s Quay, which will kick-off at 17:15 and will be shown live on S4C’s Sgorio
FAW Head of Competitions Andrew Howard added: “The opportunity to host a JD Welsh Cup Semi Final double-header provides us with a feast of football.
"I hope the event develops a strong following amongst Welsh football fans and this decision will be vindicated by the attendances and also the standard of football on show on the excellent Latham Park surface.
“Another important and attractive factor is the fan-friendly and fantastic price of just £8 for the two games. Spectator facilities at the stadium are excellent with the social club having undergone a recent refurbishment, so come rain or shine; the fans will enjoy a comfortable day.
“The event has all the ingredients to grow, so perhaps the experiment of 2016 will be a permanent fixture in our sporting calendar for years to come.”

I have been keeping my eyes open for a statement / explanation / apology from the FAW about what happened regarding the bus. There doesn't seem to be one in the public domain. Have any of those booked on the bus had one?

Given that the first match might go to extra time and penalties, it might not be over till 3.30pm. I don't think there are two sets of dressing rooms there, so there probably needs to be that length of time to get the teams from the first match washed and dressed before the second lot arrive!

If the first semi-final does not go to extra time, there is probably the opportunity to watch an hour of a Montgomeryshire League fixture, depending if Maesyrhandir, Newtown Rovers or Newtown Wanderers are at home that day.

Maesyrhandir also play homes games sometime at Riverside/Trehafren Fields like Newtown Wanderers as well as using Latham Park too. There will probably be at least one team at home that weekend at Newtown Rovers play their home fixtures at nearby Maldwyn Leisure Centre.
