Toronto Wolfpack RLFC Can't Post or Reply Privately

Anyone that wants to watch RFL new team in 2017 and doesn't want to fly to Toronto then Premier Sports are showing all of Toronto Wolfpacks games live in 2017 and 2018. They are actually showing all of Toronto's games, home & away but Barrow is slightly easier to get to than Toronto if you want to watch them in action. Other Toronto news is that they will be based at Brighouse Rangers in West Yorkshire during their stays in the UK and will train there.

There are many places in the UK from where Toronto is a slightly easier destination to get to than Barrow. Unsure

Mmm. Half an hour down a (largely) dual carriageway from the M6. That's more accessible than most of East Anglia, then.

I have checked out their fixtures for away games as I want to see them in action next season. They do not play at Coventry, Oxford, Hemel or Gloucestershire. The only game in the south and midlands is at London Skolars on a Saturday.
The same thing happened with Toulouse last season.
This can't be just coincidence. Any idea why they are not allowed to visit the new clubs?

I presume it's because of the need to create space in the season for the Super 8s (and possibly also a league cup). Clearly, everyone playing each other, home and away, then promoting the top two to the second tier is far too logical for the RFL!

League fixtures seem to to be 15 clubs, plus maybe York, play each other once, either home or away, After that the super 8's kick in. Toronto have 6 home games and 8 away games scheduled for the regular season.

Rugby league is making good progress in Jamaica. I note the 28 players selected by Toronto Wolfpack from their Last Tackle tryout tour include four Jamaicans. And a 21-year-old from Toronto. Two of the 28, Tyronie Rowe and Chad Bain, have played in England; for Coventry Bears and Bradford Dudley Hill, respectively.

I believe a Jamaican Olympic sprinter once played a pre-season match for a professional team, although he scored a couple of tries he wasn't signed.
The Jamaican army team were invited to compete in the Military World Cup, but they wanted to be accommodated in a luxury hotel rather than at the barracks in Colchester. Serbia were invited instead with predictable results.

McDonald Bailey, who was born in Trinidad but won bronze for Great Britain in the 100m at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, played one game for Leigh in 1953 - I believe it was a friendly against Wigan and he did indeed score a try or two but wasn't signed permanently.

Wolfpack play their first game in Britain on Saturday - a friendly at Pennine League amateurs Brighouse Rangers (1.30pm). From 12.15pm, the players, and coach Brian Noble, will take part in a meet-and-greet session. Wolfpack are using the excellent facilities at Brighouse Sports Club as their British training base.

During a conversation yesterday with a long-standing Wakefield season ticket-holder, who claimed to know well a couple of prominent RL players and coaches, I learned the Wolfpack (apparently) offered one Trinity forward (better not name him) £30,000 for a season's work in Championship One. He declined the offer, which was upped to £40,000 for 2018 should Toronto - as expected - rattle through the bottom division. If the deal remains on the table, it will be interesting to see what he does.

I think it's £1.85m across all three of the pro/semi-pro divisions. Toronto won't come close to reaching that in Championship One (and probably not even in the Championship). The bloke funding the Wolfpack venture is a billionaire therefore the only possible stumblling block will come if he loses interest or gets bored with landslide victories in 2017. As ever, we'll see.

Anyone thinking of taking in a Toronto Wolfpack home game this season will be eligible for discount fares on Air Transat, one of the team sponsors. The deal with Air Transat means Toronto players, coaches and staff will travel for free for games in England and teams flying to Canada for away games will also travel free. Supporters will travel at a discount. it is expected that teams will fly out to Canada on a Thursday for a Saturday game and travel back on a Sunday.

I'm considering the Coventry game and as this is June it is higher priced than the ones early in the season and I think was just below £600, including 4 star city centre hotel and match ticket. Not sure if it includes transfers. There would then be a single room supplement for solo traveller
I' m still to look at alternative options. I don't how flexible the package is, but if going that far, may want more than Thursday to Sunday

Do it if you can!

Fantasising about adding on the following weekend going south to the likes of New York Knights or Delaware Black Foxes or White Plains Wombats.

Just armchair travelling of course. Neither family nor finances would permit that sort of thing these days, haven't been to North America since 1985 but was a frequent visitor in the 20 years before that, so like to keep my eye in as it were.

According to the club's website London Skolars are expecting a sell out on Saturday. I assume they won't be opening the terracing just the main stand.
I went on the ticket page but it was no good to me as they only do 'print at home' tickets and I don't have a printer. Also it didn't confirm whether you were purchasing a stand ticket and you had to give a VAT registration number. This probably means that there will be a 'corporate' crowd of mainly Rugby Union fans who have little interest in what's going on and will spend most of the game in the bar.
Have decided not to go therefore.

For the benefit of others who might want to buy tickets in future: no you don't.

There is a Registration section on the purchase system, and there is a drop down menu which has a choice between Company and Individual. Switch it to Individual and the VAT registration item disappears.

The New River attendance - 1,542 - was a record for a Skolars home game. Wolfpack's Challenge Cup third round tie at Halifax amateurs Siddal the previous weekend drew 1,023.

Appreciate that but the Skolars are hardly the toughest opposition : I think Siddal last week gave them a harder time.

Expect Keighley, Hunslet and the Cumbrian clubs at the very least to give them more of a test.

But oh for the days when expansion for the RFL meant Scarboro' and Southend.......

I'd say the bog of a pitch and ceaseless rain at Chevinedge helped reduce Toronto to Siddal's standard. I'm pretty sure the New River pitch is now plastic - reflected in the final score. And Skolars have improved markedly over the last two seasons. As the weather gets better, and grounds harden, play will become quicker and quicker. Once this happens, I just can't see any of the Championship One teams living with the squad Toronto have put together. Both Whitehaven and Workington are rebuilding this year. The latter's early results - which include two defeats by Newcastle - suggest they aren't going to be a force. Barrow, on top of their game, might give Toronto a test. Keighley, possibly. Nobody else. Certainly not Hunslet.

We should get a better idea of Toronto's title credentials during the coming month. Wolfpack face trips to Whitehaven (March 12), Keighley (March 26) and Doncaster (April 9), three of Championship One's more capable teams. Haven's Recre pitch is sure to be extremely heavy, promising a much closer contest than at London Skolars. If spring's arrival continues to be delayed, Lawkholme Lane (sorry, Cougar Park) will be in a similar state. I'll probably head off to the Keighley game.

I note Wolfpack founder Eric Perez has been on the BBC today (6/3), spreading the word. A brief (and not terribly exciting) interview with Rob Bonnet on Radio Four's Today programme was followed by a much more enlightening chat with Louise Minchin and Dan Walker in front of the Breakfast cameras. In the latter interview, Perez told how, from scratch, he has founded a Canadian RL federation, established rugby league in Canadian schools, got a handful of open-age clubs playing in a meaningful domestic competition and, of course, set up the Wolfpack club. Of discovering rugby league via the telly during a visit to Birmingham, he recalled how he felt it was the "most Canadian sport Canadians have never played".

When someone pointed out on their Facebook page that Toronto were supposed to be funding away teams the reply was, "That is what was said originally but it cost the club over £4,000 last time and we have to go again".

£2,000 sounds like only 3 or 4 return tickets. Perhaps Barrow are taking the mick with how many people they're taking? I assume Toronto have agreed to pay for a certain number of tickets and any more is at the clubs cost.

Will Toulouse v Toronto, be the first time two non UK teams have played a RL UK league fixture?

In the absence of Catalans and Toulouse being in the same league then I think it can be the only contender in a league fixture. Plenty of candidates if you considered non-English teams though given Crusaders are their various guises and the South Wales clubs playing against Toulouse and/or Catalans.

Mixing it with the big boys by opening Super League's Magic Weekend on 19th May at St James Park with a game against Toulouse Olympique X111.

The RFL just need to rearrange the return fixture, which is played on April 2nd so the first of the 2 games between these teams, so it takes place in England.

TWP v Fev next Sunday for a place in SL, or is it? What is the situation with both clubs regarding promotion and if pair are knocked back will Broncos survive? Seems a right bloody mess and will surely need sorting before the game next week.

And are Toulouse also in the equation of potentially winning a Grand Final only to be denied a place in SL ? There was talk about the ground not being right but I think they may have gone in with the RU club but still the issue of finances has to be addressed.

Toronto state that they have already sold 8000 tickets for the Featherstone game, sold not given away, and are expecting the "Sold Out" signs to go up soon. I wonder how many of the 8000+ will be regular attendees if Toronto win and are promoted to the SL? I wonder how many of the 8000+ will be regular attendees if Toronto stay in the Championship?

9,974 the official attendance tonight and looking like a new era in SL awaits. God help this this wonderful game at the top level if we are talking potentially three North America sides in the next few years plus French clubs. They wanted expansion and now have it. Shameful!

The game sorely needs to open itself up to new markets and Toronto in Super League really could be a game changer. Such an incredible sight to see 10,000 people turn out to see ‘our’ game in a place like that. Long may it continue.

And the possibility of Belgrade joining the UK league in the future. I have to say that even though Toronto have had financial backing that has helped with their rise to SL they did start in League 1 instead of trying to shoe horn themselves straight into SL. I wonder if any US based teams would be OK with playing in League 1 and how the US public would take to that when they are accustomed to the franchise system where they only compete at the top level.

There are talks of Toronto playing their opening games in Newcastle and Dublin, due to the long winters in Toronto and SL starting in early February.

I get where you are coming from and remember reading your report from trip last season and by all accounts it was fantastic but where does this all end? Three years ago SL were dead against taking magic to Paris because of fans being unable to attend due to the financial implications. OK these North American clubs are not taking the place of the well known names because they would never obtain a licence for SL even if they wanted one but something just doesn't sound right to me.

The NRL, Netherlands Rugby League in this instance, have made a bid to hold a Wolfpack home Super League game which, if successful, would be played in either Rotterdam (not De Kuip) or Amsterdam (not Arena).

The two potential venues are Rotterdam's 11,000-capacity Sparta Stadion, home of Sparta Rotterdam, or the NCRA Stadium (National Rugby Centre Amsterdam) which holds 6,000 fans.

NRCA looks like a improvement on Broncos and I have never liked Rotterdam so only one in the reckoning. Sly

Not going to happen, according to totalrl.com:

But Featherstone hope to play a pre-season friendly in Spain, on January 11, against Valencia Huracanes:
