Some of you may or may not be aware that Middlesex have been using two different grounds within the Merchant Taylors school complex, which is a very spacious site. I will post more details on Monday when I finish typing up a lengthy report on cricket grounds I have ticked so far this year.

Given the dreadful forecast (rain all day) tomorrow, Elsecar, according to their Facebook account, are now offering free entry. They say: "The T20 game will take place in poor weather, with safety in mind." Had decent weather been on the cards, I'd have gone (and happily paid a fiver). Won't bother now, even with free entry.

Re: [John403] One for the Cricket hoppers [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The 2020 domestic cricket fixtures have been announced today, and one new innovation is something called the 'National Counties' in which Minor Counties play the first class counties in 50 over games. Sadly, these appear to be only friendly matches rather than a proper competition, so will not appeal to some cricket hoppers. The only county I have seen the fixtures for are Middlesex, who play away to Hertfordshire (at Radlett, which is also used for Middlesex home games) and Berkshire (at Falkland CC, Newbury) in July.

I saw them described as 'warm-up matches' for the Royal London Cup which starts the weekend after this set of games

Wednesday, July 15:
Berkshire v Middlesex (Falkland)
Cornwall v Somerset (Truro)

Thursday, July 16:
Hertfordshire v Middlesex (Radlett)

Friday, July 17:
Suffolk v Kent (Copdock)
Herefordshire v Worcestershire (Eastnor)
Lincolnshire v Durham (Grantham)
Staffordshire v Leicestershire (Knypersley)
Norfolk v Nottinghamshire (Manor Park)
Cumberland v Lancashire (Sedbergh School)
Northumberland v Yorkshire (TBC)
Cheshire v Warwickshire (Chester Boughton Hall)
Buckinghamshire v Surrey (High Wycombe)
Devon v Somerset (Exmouth)
Bedfordshire v Northamptonshire (Bedford School)
Dorset v Hampshire (North Perrott)
Wiltshire v Gloucestershire (Salisbury)
Wales v Glamorgan (Newport)
Cambridgeshire v Essex (TBC)
Shropshire v Derbyshire (Shifnal)
Oxfordshire v Sussex (The Parks)

Re: [Wheelbarrow] One for the Cricket hoppers [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Perhaps wishful thinking on my part, but perhaps this is part of an experiment to see if this can be turned into a proper competition from 2021 onwards. It would be interesting to see if admission is charged for any of these games. Some of the venues are enclosed grounds, although Oxfordshire are playing their home game at the Parks which is as unenclosed a venue as you can get. As far as I am concerned, the way forward for cricket is to bring more Minor Counties into the fold, rather than idiotic elitist knockabouts like 'The Hundred'.
