Dr Who Can't Post or

Thought I saw somewhere that the winner of Wimbledon was going to be Dr Who. Now some young Lady I've never heard of is Dr Who, according to BBC Breakfast - slow news day or what. What happened to Jon Pertwee?. Count Arthur Strong would make a good Dr Who.

Thankfully Wombledon is now over so we can watch Bargain Hunt in piece.

I saw on Twitter that some people are very upset about it being a woman. A retweet that appeared on my feed was from a science writer who had compiled some OTT reactions, one of which caught my eye:

I don't particularly watch it, but as I understand it, the 13 Doctors are considered not completely the same person, and in some episodes a collection of them have appeared, therefore I don't think it's unreasonable to have a women do it.

I do however draw the line at James Bond.

Re: [007Dale] Dr Who [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

If the script writers inject some humour into the role and she can play the role without overstating that she is a woman, the viewers will be able to see that for themselves, then she might make a good Doctor. Her opening scene will be important, how she handles the transformation from male to female. If the new writers aren't up to the job then she will fail.

The Christmas 2017 episode will feature 3 Doctors, David Bradley (Kes fame) playing the first Doctor., Peter Capaldi and Jodi Whittaker.

Next one will be a Muslim.

That will conflict with Islamic teaching, which states that it is strictly forbidden to predict the future because only God is capable of doing so. This is why gambling is forbidden in most Muslim countries.

William Hartnell returns.

That will be a most impressive feat, considering that he died many years ago.

Not necessarily.

I've a PhD in mathematics. I'm completely unqualified to carry out any medical diagnoses but I'm entitled to call myself doctor.

On the subject of a female Dr Who, hasn't there already been a male timelord regenerate into a woman when the Master became Missy?

So where's the problem?

There are rumours that the new Doctor will have a male companion to fix the TARDIS when it goes wrong. These rumoirs aren't correct although male companion would of course open and hold the TARDIS door for her. and also park the TARDIS on landing.

The storyline for the first episode for the new Doctor will see her come face to face with the fabric covered Laura Ashley monster which the quickly dismisses with a distasteful look and a loud tut.

In my opinion, the series just finished has been the best in years.
Not convinced by this move but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

The first thing she should do is go back a little in time to the Jurassic Coast and prevent the murder of her son........wait, that could get confusing as she might bump into David Tennent which could lead to all sorts of complications.
Nevertheless, that could also give Charlie Big Spuds the chance to do a combined Dr Who/Broadchurch double non-Grand Day Out

Each Doctor brings something different to the role. Calpaldi portrayed a darker side to the Doctor, more so than Sylvester McCoy. Capaldi isn't my favourite incarnation but certainly in my top 11. A few of the plots were a bit confusing but Steven Moffat is leaving so maybe the story lines be a lot different. I've not seen Broadchurch so I have no idea of Chris Chibnall's work

Oddly, although I rate Peter Capaldi highly, I found I couldn't care less whether his Doctor and companions won or lost. I gave up watching with about four episodes to go.

In particular I thought the episode where the big bad capitalists were depriving the space crew of their oxygen was just silly.

I doubt whether I'll watch again.

Other than medical Doctors (consultants are Mr anyway) how many people actually use titles / letters these days, my cousin does but he would!. I certainly don't use mine and have forgotten when writing to my professional body, in fact I turned some down as to me a slight change due to experience is just an excuse to charge more money.

To be pedantic, surgeons with the letters FRCS after their name are the medics who are called Mr rather than Dr. FRCS = Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons. I assume the female surgeons are Miss/Mrs.

So Dr Who obviously isn't a surgeon.

In the early 1960s I used to go my grandmother's for tea on my way home from school. I watched the first ever episode of Dr Who with her and her sister, when the Daleks suddenly appeared.

As the Daleks appeared my grandmother's sister said "I have seen those earlier this year. They were being loaded onto a lorry over the road."

Opposite my grandmother and her sister's house was a single storey red brick building where all sorts of woodwork and other things were going in and out frequently. Some time later we discovered that the BBC owned the building and sets, etc. were being made there for tv programmes.

I think the "Kes" actor goes by the name of Dai Bradley and the Dr Who actor by the name David Bradley, although Wikipedia has David "Dai" Bradley active from 1969 and David Bradley active from 1971 so it really should be the former that should be using his real name. I guess it goes from when they join Equity

I'd go along with that and the episode held together well. I was surprised to find it had been filmed locally, one location, a water tower from which you can see over the whole of Sheffield is just across the border from Dronfield.

The new assistants look as though they will be an asset. I particularly liked the Bradley Walsh character whose reaction when a scary alien turned up was to ask "why are we running TOWARDS it!". That reaction I could relate to.

I don't have any issue with Doctor Who being played by a woman, what I do find annoying is that the BBC have done it just to meet their equality targets and are using the show as some politically correct football to brainwash the general public into believing this is all new and wonderful and that women have never had lead roles before. Did nobody ever see Star Trek Voyager for goodness sake! We never had all this fuss about Captain Janeway, and Kate Mulgrew did an outstanding job with that!

Anyway, I think Jodie Whittaker is a very weak actress, why wasn't anyone else considered for the Doctor? Unimpressed
