League Cup changes Can't Post or Reply Privately

From next season, there is no extra time in League cup ties
ABBA penalties have been scrapped, backed to ABAB

There will no longer be seeding in First and Second rounds
The first round remains regionalised North/South

Can't quibble about any of that.

Wonder when the draw will be. Must be soon but I haven't seen a date yet.

With the ending of seeding in the first two rounds we might get to see a final that doesn't involved the usual big 5 (6 if you include Arsenal) teams in the final.

After last seasons fiasco with the draws maybe the EFL should ask the politicians working on Brexit to make the draws.

Why have seeding at all? Just draw the bloody balls out, how hard can it be?

Seeding was brought in so that lower EFL clubs, league 1 and league 2, got a chance of a big name in the draw so they could make some money early in the season.

My team has always been unseeded. This has meant we have always drawn a team higher than ourselves in the (previous season's) table
This makes progress from Round 1 seem less likely than in an unseeded draw - but 7 out of 18 seems a reasonable return
I have seen all seven second round ties, and we have lost them all.
In the same period we have 11 FA Cup first round wins. Of course, it is possible to draw lower than our level here, with three non-league teams beaten at first round stage
From when we joined the league (1999) to 2013, we had not lost to non-league teams, but now have done so four seasons out of five, (the odd one being when we were non-League)

Tbh, anyone will do, just glad to avoid yet another tie with Peterborough as they're in the other section of the draw.

I see McManaman, Saha and Wise are being flown over for the draw which doesn't even appear to be on TV, instead available only via the EFL website and the competition's Twitter feed.

That won't be decided for a few weeks but Sunderland v Sheff Wed looks to be the tie of the round so not ideal for TV coverage.

I reckon West Brom v. Luton Town looks a good chance for an upset, should that be the sort of thing the telly people are after. Though I doubt there'll be a very big attendance for it...

I'll hopefully get the chance to get a new tick in the 92 done somewhere. At the moment, I fancy the idea of Macclesfield Town v. Bradford City, which should also be a decent match.

Correct, on the Tuesday, doesn't look like there'll be any live games on the Wednesday, but this fixture is on the Thursday (post from Tykeoldboy):

Re: [SB.] League Cup changes [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

It looks like there could be more changes to the League Cup next season. This seasons SF may have to be delayed because of possible FA Cup 4th round and PL fixtures, one of which, Newcastle v Man City on Jan 29 is a televised game and can not be moved (no I don't understand that either). The situation is this, The second-leg ties are scheduled to be played during the week beginning 21 January, the FA Cup 4th round is January 26/27 and both Tottenham & Man City have league games on Jan 20, so possible league Cup games on 22 isn't what they want, nor wold either want to play on Jan 24. Both SF could be played on the same night, but Sky might block that one.

This fixture congestion could fore the EFL to switch to one off semi finals from next season

By the looks of the PR photo someone should slip a bit of salad into John Barnes' shopping trolley, if you can find room. Full details, plus obligatory empty platitudes about the competition from Barnes and Ray Parlour (who'll both be making the draw), are here: https://www.efl.com/...und-one-draw-details

Have the FL never considered taking the draw to one of the competing clubs grounds? Even better if it was a club that took the competition seriously!

This is precisely why the draw is at Morrison's. Who on earth takes league cups seriously - at any level!- - especially a secondary league cup like the Premier league under-21 Trophy - oops, sorry, the EFL Trophy.

Must admit I preferred this evening's draw to the overblown FA Cup draws we have these days, especially as we were spared the cringe of the token handshakes between a fans of each team as they're drawn together.

Full draw here: https://www.efl.com/...nd-one-draw-details/

Salford v Leeds and AFC Wimbledon v MK Dons are the obvious picks.

I would go along with those choices for TV coverage. This would mean Salford's first 2 games as a FL club will be on live TV, 1 league 1 lleague cup.

Not sure AFC Wimbledon v MK Dons will be a given for a TV game they’ve played each other several times now and are also in the same division this season, also tbh apart from AFC fans does anyone actually care about this anymore?

Scunthorpe v Derby would be my bet.
