Langland Stadium: Worcestershire FA Junior Cup Quarter-Final
This was my first visit to the Langland Stadium following the re-developments had been carried out since the end of last term. The ground now has a 3G surface and new changing facilities, to complement the clubhouse that was previously upgraded a couple of years ago, although the small area of cover opposite the main stand has now disappeared. Malvern Town Reserves came into this evening’s fixture top of the Herefordshire FA county League Premier Division after having recorded a 5-2 home victory over Ewyas Harold on the weekend. Worcester City Reserves play their trade in the Midland League Fourth Division and found themselves in second position following a 4-1 victory at Nuneaton Griffs Reserves last Saturday.
The first-half of this cup tie was an end-to-end affair, with both teams creating plenty of goal scoring opportunities, but there was just one goal before the interval when the hosts opened the scoring from a 42nd minute corner. The nature of the match continued after half-time and it appeared that Malvern Town Reserves were going to do just enough to progress to the semi-finals. However, there was a late sting in the tale, when they failed to clear an 82nd minute cross from the right and the ball was forced home from close range. Both teams endeavoured to find a winning goal within the 90 minutes and Worcester City Reserves struck in the third minute of stoppage time. The home custodian spilled a low 25 yard shot and was unable to recover in time to prevent the loose ball from being turned over the line to secure victory for the visitors.
