Monday's hopeful punt is the former referee and it's a knock-out mirthmaker Arthur Ellis. Well he made Stuart Hall laugh.................... and Lars - I notice you haven't won since you entered Fantasy Land with England beating Sweden in a competitive game.............

Gentlemen - it wasn't Arthur Ellis, Alfred Stair or William McGregor. This person was not English, either.

An early guess as I think it's imminent - following on from my commentator - Raymond Glendinning

Yes, I don't think this will last too much longer - but it's not Raymond Glendinning .

Stating the obvious maybe, but it will probably get a "no" answer. That's all I seem to get these days... Was the dead person once a referee (not while he was dead of course, but sometimes there's wishful thinking) ?

That's an interesting link, Lars, and I hadn't realised Hungary were denied an equaliser by a linesman's flag in the 1954 final. Alas, the long wait continues as the answer is not Sandy Griffiths!

Oh no!! I've been clicking like mad, telling my Internet/computer to work faster, and sounding like Basil Fawlty when his car didn't start when he was on his way delivering food. But thanks for telling me the link was interesting. I hope you're sure the guy wasn't a player, as I've found a lot of referees who was a player before becoming a referee.

No clues from me Lars , but I've seen nothing to suggest that this guy had previously been a player.

EDIT: Just read the questions, I think I need to re-think my effort. NEXT EDIT: Did he referee any games at the World Cup? I might have an idea if he did.
Just a note to anyone who is wondering, I am no longer a moderator of this forum due to current personal circumstances and work commitments. If you need help, contact leohoenig or Steve walker. Thank You.
