What it doesn't tell you is what level of view you're likely to get for your Euro. I think 40 for the athletics might be worth it, but if you are right at the back, what's the view going to be like... and will it matter?

Book me in for the opening and closing ceremonies. What's all that about ?

Seems like the perfect two weeks to bugger off on holiday.

What it doesn't tell you is that the 20.12 tickets for those are out in the car park cleaning the Limos for Scab Coe and the former ally of General Franco.

In yesterday's Guardian:

"Last year, a freedom of information request revealed the Olympic project had taken a grand total of 115 locals from the five host boroughs off the dole - but had forced the closure or relocation of businesses employing 1,245 staff. Given the Olympic Park is currently costing 1.1bn, it doesn't seem to be the most fantastic value for money."

Yes but when we were given a vote about whether we wanted it or not, we voted overwhelmingly in favour of the monetary drain that the Olympics is.

Oops I forgot just in case we had had the same good sense as the good burghers of Colorado in 1972, they didn't bother consulting with us.

I am surprised that it has resulted in so many jobs, they seem to spend all their time urging anyone looking for employment to volunteer their services.
Perhaps North Korean style us plebs could line the route waving soppy little flags as the Scum who make up the IOC are whisked past in their Limousines.

disagree football does have its place in the olympics, you tend to get the younger players how are the stars of the future, which can only be good for the game.

You tend to get the younger players at the tournament because, last time I checked, squads are restricted to u23 level.

Northwood, Threave Rovers, Arsenal, Rangers (the real ones, NOT qpr),Watford, Rochdale, queen of the south and a few others.

I think the main benefit of the Olympics is the legacy of transport and infrastructure improvements. I'm not interested in the event myself but I do think it gives certain bodies the leverage they need to get things done. And yes, I know I'm asking for all sorts of moaning about engineering closures etc, but I like London Overground from Highbury so there!
Tongue

ps. is the amateur thing completely in the past now? I'd be more interested in watching Olympic football if it was a purely amateur event (or to be more precise, an event for people who have proper, paid jobs - not the eastern bloc thing of them being in the Army but being allowed to train 6 times a week).

For me an Olympic Gold Medal should be the ultimate achievement in a particular sport, ie athletics, swimming, track cycling, hockey, rowing, amateur boxing etc. In sports such as football, baseball and tennis this is not the case so I personally feel that they should not be included. I for one would not miss them and I believe I would not be alone.

Of course they do. Does anybody really think the country that has its World Cup Venue vote so obviously up for sale, doesn't think twice about doctoring a players birth certificate (if they have one at all) to make them eligible.
